it's officially back but i can't read anything on the site bc it's butt-ugly and i don't usually even kvetch about (re)designs like everyone else online bc who cares usually but this time wow it's butt-ugly

Some of the typefaces remind me of the New Republic's recent redesign, and may be reflective of a trend away from the clean sans-serifs of the 2010s, but the overall look is more aggressive.

there are enough boring ass minimal websites. this is neat

The design is fine, could be a lot worse. Scrolling down and seeing the first three (non self-congratulatory) stories being a creepy pap shot, Bieber's relationship status and Chrissy Tiegen's real estate deals proves that this is going to be a thing that is very much not for me. But, hey, I'm sure the need for clicks is real.

Not that the gossip rag stuff is new at all, but it seemed a little less prominent before? Or maybe I'm just misremembering.

Looks better on mobile than desktop (though still with the underboob header), the really celeb gossipy part (Divorce Watch) feels out of place today with every celebrity's omnipresent social media presence delivering gossip and drama to you.

the website i miss isn't gawker but the awl.

kelly conaboy is writing for this new gawker. she wrote a few really funny pieces for the awl so that makes me feel more positive toward this new gawker.
