i freakin' love City Girls

i am kind of hot and cold on them overall, they've had their moments tho for sure

i enjoyed their take on "i'll take your man" from a few years back (along a similar throwback vein as this i guess)

They can be really fun or kind of one dimensional, some p classic tracks though. I think this was an A+ idea executed in a B+ way. Fun though

right on the heels of me posting lathun's "freak it" in the best of 1998 list thread (clearly i'm v influential), here is city girls' new formulaic revival of the song (w/ usher) "good love"

i am not against these blatant nostalgia-grabs in principle, especially for the late-90s bass era that i love so much, but could they at least get those involved to make them sound comparably good to the originals instead of just substituting in new generic lyrics? someone call up carl mo or somebody who used to evidently put actual effort into their productions. at least lathun might get a small royalty check from this one since he's in the writing credits (along w/ pretty tony, since "when i hear music" was the foundation of "freak it" to begin with)
