much as with the first season, there's a pretty clear 50/50 split between uproariously funny and total bomb.

shut the fuck up doug, you skunk!!

all of these sketches are guaranteed goddamn hits

STOCK FIST-PUMPER BRAD (BradNelson), Wednesday, 7 July 2021 12:52 (two years ago) link

had grand plans to stretch these out across the week to make the fun last longer, but blitzed through the first 3 last night, was in tears the entire time. loved how there were a few mr. show-style callbacks, like the dan flashes commercial. agree that patti harrison is an mvp. the casting in general is so good, esp the non-comedians like the santa claus guy or the burger stealing professor.

very proud of myself for figuring out that the Corncob TV sketch was directed by one of the Fatal Farm dudes

Watched the first two and so far the mall prank show w/the heavy prosthetics is the one that killed me

My partner usually hates sketch shows and absurdism, but loves this show. I think it's down to 1) good production values 2) everyone else in the sketches react like actual humans.

This is why no one watches AOL Blast.

Chris L, Wednesday, 7 July 2021 14:32 (two years ago) link

yeah, it really does a great job at the "one person seems to be in a completely different universe from the rest of the group, and the rest of the group tries to cope with this" motif.

if you're saying the patterns aren't complicated well....I mean they're complicated.

not up to Aerosmith standards (Neanderthal), Wednesday, 7 July 2021 14:33 (two years ago) link

the part that killed me is the "adult" ghost tour where Tim begins each sentence with "do any of these fuckers..."

frogbs, Wednesday, 7 July 2021 14:35 (two years ago) link

his inability to see what he's doing wrong is what made it for me.

"we must have gotten our wires crossed....we're allowed to curse, right?"

just realizing the term "mud pies" didn't make an appearance in any of the eps this season

A lot of the premises rely on someone being very obtuse but of course the way it’s done is the key here and they nail it.

can't tell if I liked Patti Harrison better in the tables sketch or the "Shark Tank" parody, but I think it's tables

STOCK FIST-PUMPER BRAD (BradNelson), Wednesday, 7 July 2021 15:36 (two years ago) link

I try not to make hay out of this sort of thing but I do think the diversity of the cast of this show is a real strength, vs. the median White Guy Sketch Troupe Show. Really enjoyed the gay zoomers who made up the class of the tables sketch for example.

Haunted House Tour, Coffin Flops, Burger Professor, Santa Claus Action Movie, Undercover Mall Show, the concept of "sloppy steaks" are my faves.

i would list the things i don't like in this thread but i don't wanna be a buzzkill

i don't mind being a bit of a buzzkill and saying that i enjoyed this quite a bit less than the first season. still great though and the patti harrison sketches were among my favourites

《Myst1kOblivi0n》 (jim in vancouver), Wednesday, 7 July 2021 17:13 (two years ago) link

i think back to front this got more laughs from me than the 1st but ymmv.

also if my experience with this is anything like it was with the first, i'll be watching through it multiple times and new favorites will arise.

circa1916, Wednesday, 7 July 2021 17:15 (two years ago) link

yes, i watched the first season 3 times and will likely do the same with this one.

weakest sketch for me was the one the culminated with the three waiters but i haven't rewatched it yet. i still laughed

everything involving dan flashes is gonna make me lol for months to come

The scene of people fighting over shirts at Dan Flashes was great

not up to Aerosmith standards (Neanderthal), Wednesday, 7 July 2021 17:26 (two years ago) link

Ending sketches seems to be an issue this time. Nothing as seamless as the spine center one morphing into the middle-aged hitmakers.

KEEP HONKING -- I'M BOBOING (Boring, Maryland), Wednesday, 7 July 2021 17:32 (two years ago) link

agreed with everyone that the dan flashes callback was a season highlight. the peaceful "the creeks" lead-up made it even better–you knew what was coming, but the execution of the chaos is so good that it doesn't matter.

Love that they got the girl from Once Upon a Time in Hollywood for that

not up to Aerosmith standards (Neanderthal), Wednesday, 7 July 2021 18:42 (two years ago) link

some of the sketches were unusually wholesome, both odenkirk and the wife guy one

STOCK FIST-PUMPER BRAD (BradNelson), Wednesday, 7 July 2021 19:07 (two years ago) link

jamie taco keeps taking my lines!

the mai tai quinn (voodoo chili), Wednesday, 7 July 2021 19:19 (two years ago) link

that one made me lol because I once did a show with Ginger Minj (before they were Ginger Minj) and she told me that she was in a production of Father of the Bride and one of the actors was kicked out of the show because he couldn't get his lines out fast enough so everybody 'skipped over' them so he'd wind up never saying any of his lines.

that and "Jamie Taco"

being under 60 lbs and holding a tammy craps doll is like smoking five macanudo cigars a day

STOCK FIST-PUMPER BRAD (BradNelson), Wednesday, 7 July 2021 21:05 (two years ago) link

episode 4 (is it?) has a really poor sketch with a guy dancing in a hat and glasses freaking a dog out and embarrassing everyone else in the room then is followed by the sketch with the pee-stained chinos which seems absolutely interminable. Those are the only two sketches in that episode, I think? Too many of the sketches revolve around extremely limited scenarios - someone doing something stupidly weird and everyone else feeling being embarrassed or repulsed by it. Most of the sketches end very unsatisfactorily as well, as noted above, which was a problem in s1 but is very much more of a problem this time around.

excuse me the blues brothers sketch is excellent, he saved the party

STOCK FIST-PUMPER BRAD (BradNelson), Wednesday, 7 July 2021 21:34 (two years ago) link

The Odenkirk sketch and the burger-theft sketch are great. The burger sketch has a really wild payoff.
