The only time I faced a full-scale riot in my film class happened while showing Playtime.

They calmed down when I explained it's a dud as a comedy but a solid example of visual and sound design, use of long shot, of showing how America looked like in a post-World's Fair climate, etc.

Watching this pretty good early 60s sex farce I never saw or heard of before. Caste is a perfect time capsule of the moment.

Lead actress’s father’s first wife is on a little later. Think the two families were neighbors when she was growing up.

(xpost) I called him a short Greek guy; Peter Ustinov says something like "He's small, but compact," then goes on to say he seems smaller than when in the gladiator ring. Ustinov's hilarious in Spartacus.

He and Olivier and Laughton are the best things about it.
