three months pass...

I was kinda wondering if this was going to slide off the table, good to know we're still happening.

LJ seems to be on a major sabbatical so this has slid off the table, out the front door and down the nearest drain. A pity as I've got stuff ready to go now!

have in fact made a tentative return to ILM (and ILB) only, so uh if people still want to do this and if I haven't burnt too many bridges then go for it!

Get it out in time for Christmas at least.

I have ambient synth to contribute, which is a genre of music that no one is exploring in 2021

Maybe I should attempt to finish one of the half dozen tracks I started

I'm fairly sure I sent in my entry. Did you receive it?

I've got three or four possibles, not sure which is most appropriate for a crawling out of lockdown comp.

... but I've just finished a new track tonight so I'm going to use that one instead.

I made a tune for this but it really wasn't very good. something that came up for me at the time and has also been coming up recently is that making happy music is actually really fucking difficult. most of the music i've ever made is pretty fucking moody but i've been trying to make more upbeat tracks lately, maybe it's because I'm just not used to doing that, or maybe happy music is more technically difficult somehow, like you need to properly know about music theory etc?

ava (paolo), Thursday, 6 July 2023 08:08 (nine months ago) link

I remember watching a documentary about Scottish music (I think) and they had a wee interview with kt tunstall and she spoke about how writing a sad song is a piece of piss, anyone can do that but writing a happy song that's actually good takes a lot more skill, and ya know what I think old kt was onto something there.

ava (paolo), Thursday, 6 July 2023 08:09 (nine months ago) link

lol maybe the BE HAPPY OR ELSE subtext was a bit strong here

imago, Thursday, 6 July 2023 09:30 (nine months ago) link

i don't know what creative limitation to suggest for any subsequent attempt

imago, Thursday, 6 July 2023 09:31 (nine months ago) link

I actually have the opposite problem, everything I do sounds very bright and positive and upbeat.

Another covers rekkid would be good, those are always fun, more intensive but still fun.

MaresNest, Thursday, 6 July 2023 11:03 (nine months ago) link
