Debut feature from Martin Campbell, the director of Goldeneye, The Mask Of Zorro, Casino Royale, the original 1985 Edge Of Darkness, and the American remake of Edge Of Darkness:

The Sex Thief (1973)

(Despite having left New Zealand years before Taika Waititi was born, Campbell also gave 36-year-old Waititi his first role in an American blockbuster.)

Wiki says that for the US release in 1976 (as Her Family Jewels), producers inserted hardcore scenes involving other actors, to suggest the cast were actually having sex. That is nuts!

But also if this happened with a movie I'd starred in I'd probably sue or fire my agent.

I've always liked that Goonies poster way better than the one that became the popular image of the film through (I imagine) its various home video releases.

oh, 100%. the other one is also less brutal about its hierarchy of size revealing the actors' comparative salaries.

the stalactite is the only Goonies poster design I am familiar with (was also on the paperback)

This one was used for video/DVD and a poster with pull-quotes (possibly for the video release?)

Herb Edelman!

reads "She's the pop-top princess with the recyclable can" once and boggles at this gibberish

re-reads, salutes it as the second-greatest tagline ever

Edelman is not known to me, so I was assuming their biggest casting "get" was Carol Bagdasarian, the daughter of Chipmunks creator and vocalist Ross. Apparently she made a decent go of it as a 70s TV actress, with an appearance on Harry O and seemingly five different named roles on Mannix. Her biggest film parts seem to have been this Model T movie, a supporting role in the Chuck Norris vehicle The Octagon, and a major role in a forgotten 1980s sci-fi movie called The Aurora Encounter.

Edelman was Dorothy's ex-husband Stanley on The Golden Girls.

He also did a ton of TV from the '60s-'90s, in addition to films like The Odd Couple and The Way We Were.

Louis Nye is one of those people who was reasonably famous to anyone born before 1970 or '75...and a blank to anyone born after.

“Heroin” (ft. Bobby Gillespie) (C. Grisso/McCain), Saturday, 31 July 2021 19:33 (two years ago) link

OTM. He was one of those guys I only knew from talk or game shows featuring old school wits. It was on one of the former I saw him with Steve Allen answering the question “Do you shun the public?” and his response was “Well there was this one fellow who recognized me in a restaurant and came over and dropped his cigarette ash in my meal so I shunned him, but no, in general I don’t shun the public.” Little James Redd was sitting there in front of the Zenith thinking “dude, you are lucky at this stage to have a public.”

Louis Nye’s Wikipedia page pretty interesting.

Pollifax was Russell's last feature film. She did a TV movie the next year, and died in '76.

Some Kind of a Nut (1969)

I Am Fribbulus (Xax) (Doctor Casino), Wednesday, 8 September 2021 18:23 (two years ago) link

good one! looks like a helluva film too.

apparently the plot is that Dick Van Dyke can't shave, due to a... mosquito bite I think? and this raises hackles at his mild-mannered job or whatever, and is the prompt for what seems like possibly a very limp, toothless sendup of hippie-era culture classes and the Generation Gap and so on.

Thought that was going to be the smoking one for a minute, what was that called, Cold Turkey, maybe? Probably somewhere upthread in a broken link already.
