7 inning games could theoretically cut back on reliever usage…or just entrench it idk

k3vin k., Friday, 25 June 2021 22:58 (two years ago) link

teams wouldn't need to carry as many pitchers on their rosters, you'd think

Tracer Hand, Friday, 25 June 2021 23:05 (two years ago) link

- deaden the ball even more
- move the fences back
- enlarge the bases
- move the rubber back
- 7-inning games
- no ghost runner
- no shift constraints

Tracer Hand, Friday, 25 June 2021 23:07 (two years ago) link

i mean while i'm dreaming might as well with:

- no d.h.

That hat is like if the Yankees were an early 00s expansion team.

Orioles came back in the late innings and won on the road, so that's different

Guayaquil (eephus!), Saturday, 26 June 2021 03:00 (two years ago) link

like..... if you can't get it done in 7 innings maybe you can't get it done

Sorry, that turns out to be false

Karl Malone, Sunday, 27 June 2021 21:18 (two years ago) link

i was gonna say

Braves might want to have a review of who covers what in their outfield, they came close to having collisions on 4 plays today, only one of which really cost them.

Fundamentals schumduntamentals...

So this Bauer news is some strange shit. A restraining order and then his agent releasing details of their (Bauer and the woman with the order against him) sex life.

Brew Crew continue to demolish the record books

Milwaukee's Aaron Ashby is the first pitcher in the modern era to start, go less than an inning and allow 7+ runs in his MLB debut.

frogbs, Wednesday, 30 June 2021 19:13 (two years ago) link

looks like only 4 of the runs were earned, though. and i'll still take that over Mike Mayers' debut in 2016 (1.1 IP, 9 ER)

Manager Mike Matheny, desperate for innings coverage, stuck with Mayers until the righty completed the 45-pitch frame. Once Mayers allowed three more runs in the second, his manager left for the mound to make a pitching change and offer a message.

"What I told him when he came off was that he's done a great job, had a great season, and that's a tough assignment he just walked into," said Matheny. "Hopefully he uses that as a learning experience and builds off of it."

After contributing to Wander Franco's big build-up, I literally forgot he existed after two games. Looks like he's off to a slow start...only 30 AB, no big deal.

clemenza, Friday, 2 July 2021 10:18 (two years ago) link

here are some guys

I count three Giants legends. Four if you occasionally remember Edwin Jackson being on the Giants at one point, which I definitely do. https://t.co/GAx9DRUSdH

— Grant Brisbee (@GrantBrisbee) July 2, 2021

mookieproof, Friday, 2 July 2021 16:25 (two years ago) link

I am currently trying to trade for Franco in my redraft fantasy league - his BABIP is insanely low. I’m expecting him to heat up.

Although, so was Kelenic’s - so this might be a mistake.

i don’t know why it’s just occurred to me but the ghost runner will absolutely blow up an entire generation of relief pitchers’ stats, won’t it?

Tracer Hand, Sunday, 4 July 2021 08:43 (two years ago) link

the runs aren't earned are they? tho, i guess having some rando at 2b isn't going to help matters either way

ahh i guess that makes sense yes

Tracer Hand, Sunday, 4 July 2021 14:13 (two years ago) link

On the other hand, maybe it could lead to a new era stat - who keeps that runner from scoring? I know LOB% is already a thing, but maybe this would be just for extra inning situations?

Eh, I don’t know. Maybe that sample size is too small for most relievers to be meaningful

Z_TBD (Karl Malone), Sunday, 4 July 2021 14:35 (two years ago) link

the marlins have MLB's 11th-best run differential and 24th-best record

7-19 in one-run games

Cubs are the third team to have a lengthy post no-hitter losing streak. I don’t know if it means anything. For O’s/Dbacks it was mainly a road losing streak.

Michael F Gill, Tuesday, 6 July 2021 17:40 (two years ago) link

cubs "no-hitter"

i think the trend is that none of those teams are very good

na (NA), Tuesday, 6 July 2021 17:49 (two years ago) link

Right, two of those no hitters do deserve quotation marks.

Michael F Gill, Tuesday, 6 July 2021 19:12 (two years ago) link

fuckin baseball players

When he’s playing catch between starts, Lance Lynn is always wearing a hoodie with long sleeves underneath, which was still the case on Monday as temperatures went into the high-90s. He explained that if you always feel miserable, it offers a sort of consistency

frogbs, Wednesday, 7 July 2021 21:08 (two years ago) link

An actual area of common ground between MLB owners and players? We found sources on both sides who want 7-inning doubleheader games — currently just a covid protocol — to become permanent.https://t.co/ihuHZEqDum

Tracer Hand, Thursday, 8 July 2021 20:25 (two years ago) link

Daniel Camarena was playing in the minors since 2012.

In his second career MLB game, he somehow gets an at bat with the bases loaded, and becomes the first relief pitcher to hit a grand slam since 1985.

And he did it off Max Scherzer! His team came back from 8-0 to tie it. https://t.co/orHfNCm0Fc
