I would agree that this is not “the worst thing” about it, tho.

even if the Starmer office hadn't made B&S even more toxic by insulting/shaming longtime supporters as anti-Semites. I'm not sure her strategy of running a campaign like she's in a local council election (potholes, bin collections, litter) was ever going to be a winning strategy in a by-election within a Labour controlled council. She and the people who encouraged her to run were obv very naive or hadn't looked at the math of the 2019 result which showed they were already in trouble even before you factor in the widespread discontent towards Starmer from other UK South Asian communities in the local elections.

calzino, Friday, 25 June 2021 19:44 (two years ago) link

"but idk if she’d have anticipated Labour turning the whole campaign into a vehicle for apportioning blame for losing an election that was still weeks away."

Maybe, 'non-political' people who decide to do politics are bizarre to me. You do a thing like that in public you should know who you are going about with.

Should've run as an independent.

xyzzzz__, Friday, 25 June 2021 20:00 (two years ago) link

She shouldn’t have run at all but I am not sure a more seasoned politician would have anticipated quite how wildly, and maliciously, the party has sabotaged itself here either.

"'non-political' people who decide to do politics are bizarre to me"

when Kim has been put on the spot, like when OJ asked her about the UK selling weapons of death to repressive states. She reveals herself to actually be quite political after all and starts equivocating with a typical bullshit Labour Right response.

I didn't think Hodges would really be a front runner, particularly after he admitted voting for Theresa May in 2017. Or maybe as long as you hated Corbyn then your in with a shot!

When you don’t understand how people leaving a mosque works? Because I’m not in any way defending Galloway or that idiot screaming homophobia but you’d think you’d want to be accurate on what’s actually happening? https://t.co/0sD8w7mzwp

— The Trashies (@TheTrashiesUK) June 25, 2021

so if you catch Galloway and some hate-mongering homophobic gobshite from outside the area in the same shot with people leaving the mosque after Friday prayers then you can falsely report that they are all complicit with the verbal abuse Leadbeater received.

calzino, Friday, 25 June 2021 23:22 (two years ago) link

the homophobic gobshite is shockingly a friend of Katie Hopkins it seems

Watching Novara Media last night reminded me of the very obvious fact that Kim L's sister was murdered 5 years ago while trying to do the job that Kim L is trying to attain.

This did, for me, put aggression against her in a different light.

They also stated that she is a lesbian, and that this would make LGBT abuse against her worse. I had not been aware of this at all.

Overall, while I am not sure that I would vote for her, I think it is very bad that some individuals are deliberately raising tension and aggression in this of all constituencies.

If there were a Green candidate I would probably vote for them.

the pinefox, Saturday, 26 June 2021 07:29 (two years ago) link

It is extraordinary btw how no-one seems sure how to pronounce "Leadbeater". I keep seeing the same people say it different ways in the space of the same clip.

the pinefox, Saturday, 26 June 2021 07:38 (two years ago) link

I'm not quite sure if this is imbecilic or accurate.

It's strange when you talk to someone who considers Galloway a good person, particularly when they are Asian and you consider his past approval of a neo-fascist like Bannon. Also that he is a shameless grifter and an opportunist. But it is all Kieth's fault and hate him or hate him - he's become an outlet for dissatisfaction with Labour and that is perfectly legitimate.

the unrelenting Tory sleaze Babs is alluding to feels familiar but there is no ascendant New Labour coming over the horizon, in fact quite the opposite. And I'm not even sure what "90's clothes" are despite living through the era. I've always been half normie/half scruff and that style can't be pinned to a decade!

Lots of people haven't the foggiest who Bannon is would be my guess, give a good game on the doorstep and cash in on ppl's disenfranchisement and you're golden. Which yes wouldn't happen if Keith hadn't screwed things up in the first place.

Daniel_Rf, Saturday, 26 June 2021 09:14 (two years ago) link

This tweet is asking the right questions re: Hancock

The fucking Sun running an overt blackmailing protection racket on democratically elected ministers (including, apparently, their news desk having access to CCTV footage of secretary of states' offices??) is really obviously orders of magnitude worse than "having an affair".

— Lafargue (@Lafargue) June 26, 2021

xyzzzz__, Saturday, 26 June 2021 10:46 (two years ago) link

it makes me wonder if they have also hacked the cctv cameras at Kieth's SW1 office, which would also be very wrong but potentially hilarious into the bargain!

calzino, Saturday, 26 June 2021 10:57 (two years ago) link

Yeah the Sun thing is obviously worse but also no one cares that Hancock had an affair - they care that he handed NHS contracts to his mistress's brother.

Starmer is the kind of man who enters a boxing ring, goes for a big punch and topples over having discovered someone has tied his boots together while he wasn’t looking.

nashwan, Saturday, 26 June 2021 13:27 (two years ago) link

My guess would be that Hancock is pushing for further delays to COVID restrictions being lifted and someone, possibly from the Treasury, has called in a favour with The Sun.

Scampo di tutti i Scampi (ShariVari), Saturday, 26 June 2021 13:32 (two years ago) link

There's something very odd about positioning a security camera so it only shows you who is entering or exiting through a door. Maybe there are many more cameras focused on specific areas of rooms and corridors like that and so there is more footage available (if they were doing it there they were probably doing it other places around the building). And although it might make some sense to stand right against the door to try and obstruct someone else entering, it seems unlikely two people could prevent some suspicion were that to happen.

Garrison: "I never realized Kennedy was so dangerous to the Establishment. Is that why?")
Well, that's the real question, isn't it? Why? The 'How' and the 'Who' is just scenery for the public. Oswald, Ruby, Cuba, the Mafia, keeps 'em guessing like some kind of parlor game. Prevents 'em from asking the most important question: Why? Why was Kennedy killed? Who benefited? Who has the power to cover it up? Who?...
