the wingnuts are obsessing over use of "unindicted co-conspirators" in the indictments of rioters--claiming that they must all be undercover FBI agents (rather than rioters flipping on other rioters)

Muswell Hillbilly Elegy (President Keyes), Thursday, 17 June 2021 13:44 (two years ago) link

the wingnuts only know how 5 things work in the world and just hinge on key phrases that manipulative talking heads convince them are important.

words/phrases that no longer mean anything thanks to Trumpers wrecking them:

"fake news"
"voting irregularities"
"unindicted co-conspirators"
"Quid pro quo"
"Treason"
"coup"
"bigot"

cancel culture club (Neanderthal), Thursday, 17 June 2021 13:50 (two years ago) link

I'll never forget how quickly Trump co-opted the phrase 'fake news' as a legitimate descriptor of his word vomit and just turned it into more word vomit. Dismantling the English language and cobbling together a verbal IED from the remains.

I've known Jeff for fifteen years. Terrific guy. He's a lot of fun to be with. It is even said that he likes beautiful women as much as I do, and many of them are on the younger side. No doubt about it — Jeffrey enjoys his social life.

“Testing is killing me!” Trump reportedly told then-Health and Human Services Secretary Alex Azar during a phone call on March 18. Trump was yelling so loud that aides were said to have overheard every word of the conversation.

“I’m going to lose the election because of testing! What idiot had the federal government do testing?” Trump exclaimed.

“Uh, do you mean Jared?” Azar responded, according to the Post...

Getting tired of all the "Weisselberg is about to flip" stories. The fact that prosecutors are now looking at Matthew Calamari probably means Weisselberg told them to go pound sand.

Josh in Chicago, Tuesday, 22 June 2021 13:17 (two years ago) link

seriously, is anything at ALL going to happen to him before he's running for president in 2024 and is immune to prosecution again, according to DOJ policy 2340, regional prosecution jurisdiction order AJ#22 and what's known as "the unspoken gentlemen's code" that when you're running for office and you might win, you can't commit crimes?

Karl Malone, Tuesday, 22 June 2021 15:16 (two years ago) link

before he's running for president in 2024

by this i mean starting to run for president in 2022, when the campaigns start in earnest

Karl Malone, Tuesday, 22 June 2021 15:17 (two years ago) link

Former President Donald Trump has amassed 10 times more campaign cash than he had four years ago, and he’s already resuming fundraising efforts ahead of intra-party clashes in the 2022 midterms and a potential 2024 presidential run.

Trump’s leadership PAC, Save America PAC, had $85 million in the bank through March, CNBC reported this week. That’s up from $31 million through the end of 2020. The group will officially file its fundraising and spending figures with the Federal Election Commission by April 15.

Bolstered by a constant stream of online donations from diehard supporters, Trump is in a stronger financial position than he was four years ago. Through the first three months of 2017, his campaign reported having about $8.4 million in the bank. Trump began fundraising for reelection shortly after taking office, giving him a significant head start in the 2020 race.

of course he'll run for office until he's dead. he finally found a business where people just throw money at him

Karl Malone, Tuesday, 22 June 2021 15:19 (two years ago) link

figured there'd be a bump for this additional proof about what a whiny thin-skinned snowflake he was:

https://www.businessinsider.com/trump-asked-if-doj-fcc-could-punish-snl-after-mocking-report-2021-6

President Donald Trump asked advisors and lawyers to look into how "Saturday Night Live" and other late-night shows could be punished after they mocked him, The Daily Beast's Asawin Suebsaeng and Adam Rawnsley reported on Tuesday.

Two sources told the outlet that Trump had asked aides in 2019 to look at what the Federal Communications Commission, US courts, and the Department of Justice could do about "SNL" and other shows, like "Jimmy Kimmel Live."

in a slightly better alternate universe, instead of trump getting enraged by obama at the press dinner in 2011 (reminder: trump was enraged by obama because obama had the nerve to make a joke making light of how trump had led a global racist movement targeting obama's birth certificate) and becoming president and shitting all over this country's dinner, he could have instead been enraged by SNL making fun of him and instead taken over SNL and made the show even worse, somehow. but i suppose entertainment and politics are forever entwined now

The brother of a friend just completed a book on the Toronto Argos' 1991 Grey Cup. (If you're not from Canada, don't worry about that part.) Trump gets a brief mention in the book, I believe because of some connection to Bruce McNall, co-owner of the team (with John Candy and Wayne Gretzky) who went on to serve time in prison.

Anyway, the punch line: the league's commissioner at the time, mentioned throughout the book, was a guy named Donald Crump.
