Happy Bloomsday! Which I'm celebrating from the bottom of B!

BABABUOY (Leee), Wednesday, 16 June 2021 16:57 (three years ago) link

Hah, you and me both.

I gooseegged Tuesday for i think the first time?

the person leading the whole thing this season has gotten 128 right and 4 wrong

is it petty of me to be skeptical

mookieproof, Thursday, 17 June 2021 15:53 (three years ago) link

I aced my first match in two seasons, and finally caught a break as my opponent yesterday is Irish (and missed an older NWSL question too) but got the others right. Still firmly ensconced in relegation though.

Downright dismissive? You have a minor risk of being wrong. Skeptical? I would say hell no that is not petty. I haven't checked who you're talking about, but that better be a major star in the game (or sensational new discovery).

anatol_merklich, Thursday, 17 June 2021 22:55 (three years ago) link

B-b-but isn't TAI usually pretty good at rooting out problematic players?

Rich Valley Girl, Poor Valley Girl (James Redd and the Blecchs), Thursday, 17 June 2021 23:39 (three years ago) link

Sigh etc; maybe let bullshit do what bullshit be or maybe vice versa or not I dunno; if you have a physical spring cleverly inserted in your step you may not know that the actual world high jump record is FAR below your online backyard 2:58 metres -- others may be aware of this though.

anatol_merklich, Friday, 18 June 2021 00:09 (three years ago) link

Found the player mentioned (or at least someone with same TCA), and it appears to be only his second season. A bit early for any rooting out, I suppose, even if warranted (which, again, we do not know for a fact).

anatol_merklich, Friday, 18 June 2021 12:12 (three years ago) link

Haven't played LL for ages, but I usually hear rumblings about suspicious behaviour from others and this season hasn't seen any gossip reach my radar. Is this one UK or US based?

ailsa, Friday, 18 June 2021 18:44 (three years ago) link

US.

Ta.

another solidly middle of the road C season for me. average among the obsessives, that's me.

Having one of those seasons where I'm constantly struggling to stay above the relegation zone. Looks like it'll be down to the final Match Day.

jaymc, Saturday, 19 June 2021 14:43 (three years ago) link

I've already lost that struggle.

Rich Valley Girl, Poor Valley Girl (James Redd and the Blecchs), Saturday, 19 June 2021 14:50 (three years ago) link

But I guess I can see a way that I could survive.

Rich Valley Girl, Poor Valley Girl (James Redd and the Blecchs), Saturday, 19 June 2021 14:53 (three years ago) link

I've clinched my spot in C for next season again. I'm honestly a little relieved, since the competition in B for me leaves almost no room for error. I can barely imagine what A is like.

BABA BUOY (Leee), Saturday, 19 June 2021 16:09 (three years ago) link

I have had a spell or two in A and... it wasn't pleasant.

Rich Valley Girl, Poor Valley Girl (James Redd and the Blecchs), Saturday, 19 June 2021 16:33 (three years ago) link

I have a below-par Qpct for my A rundle but I tend to claim enough match wins and 9(6)s per season to finish somewhere in the third quartile, so long as I don’t forfeit.

It me. I can be somewhat hypomanic or obsessive in a way that can make me interesting or annoying depending on your mileage, but never enough so as to write my name upon the stars.

Rich Valley Girl, Poor Valley Girl (James Redd and the Blecchs), Saturday, 19 June 2021 18:10 (three years ago) link

my A rundle appears to be among the very easiest around, which is fine with me

mookieproof, Saturday, 19 June 2021 18:21 (three years ago) link

My B rundle is 35-32-32-32-31-31-30 at the top, promotion placings bolded, my points italicized, so I appear to have an outside chance of the privilege of spending the next season in relegation agony rather than promotion hopefulness.

anatol_merklich, Saturday, 19 June 2021 21:55 (three years ago) link

Heh, I swear my drunken 2.58 m high-jump simile of two days ago was written without knowledge of this: Rich guy beats Vishy Anand in chess game, latter takes it well; eyebrows in chess community are raised; rich guy is found to have cheated, rich guy then (but not before) pretty much tweets OF COURSE i cheated: It is ridiculous that so many are thinking that I really beat Vishy sir in a chess game, that is almost like me waking up and winning a 100mt race with Usain Bolt.

learnedleague rundle championship, sorry

the portentous pepper (govern yourself accordingly), Sunday, 20 June 2021 14:20 (three years ago) link

I just looked through a bunch of league leaders and I actually found 2 other players who have only missed 4 questions this season, which is also the second for both (one does have a forfeit loss, however). At the same time, the other more established players have all gotten fewer than a dozen wrong answers themselves. A Rundle problems.

BABA BUOY (Leee), Sunday, 20 June 2021 16:39 (three years ago) link

Only one other, it seems? The leaguewide TCA leaders (all leagues, all rundles) have these scores out of 150:

146
146
142
141
141
141
141
141
140
140
140
140
140
then 139, 138 (times 5), 137 (times 11), 136 (times 3), 135 (times 13), 134 (times 14), and so on with quite a few people on each score.

Although looking closer, none of those two has a forfeit loss, so maybe something was done already. In any case, that four-point jump at the top stands out a bit, I must say.

na (NA), Tuesday, 22 June 2021 14:38 (three years ago) link

Rich Valley Girl, Poor Valley Girl (James Redd and the Blecchs), Tuesday, 22 June 2021 14:52 (three years ago) link

i got a 7(5) on the last day! unfortunately my competitor got a 9(6)

it's ok, i think C is probably where i belong. i had a couple of good seasons (or rather, seasons that seemed heavier on my better topics) that bumped me up into B and kept me there for a bit, but i'm probably a C at heart

na (NA), Tuesday, 22 June 2021 15:19 (three years ago) link

I won my rundle for the second consecutive year, in both instances primarily due to good (i.e. lucky) defense. It's a dynasty!

justfanoe (Greg Fanoe), Tuesday, 22 June 2021 15:30 (three years ago) link

Uh, I obv forgot to account for the 0(F) in my last post above; seems guy #3 ended up with five errors.

Had a pretty bad final day; #7 in B probably about fair. :)

Wd justfanoe, and good luck in championship!

Wondering if it makes any sense to say that LL gets more competitive as time goes by and work is required merely to stay in place.

Rich Valley Girl, Poor Valley Girl (James Redd and the Blecchs), Tuesday, 22 June 2021 17:07 (three years ago) link

maybe but the questions also did seem harder this season

na (NA), Tuesday, 22 June 2021 17:09 (three years ago) link

I'm pretty sure that during the expansion era it got less competitive over time, by a vaguely statistical argument. Most players who join will be around the median strength, and the concentration of skilled players in the A rundles of the earliest leagues will be diluted out, giving more opportunity for people like yrs truly to float in the middle of an A rundle indefinitely despite a not very spectacular Qpct.

Clara Lemlich stan account (silby), Tuesday, 22 June 2021 17:26 (three years ago) link

like, I assume each new league added didn't necessarily = the addition of 25 new players who are all as strong or stronger than every player already in an A rundle.

Clara Lemlich stan account (silby), Tuesday, 22 June 2021 17:27 (three years ago) link

won my first ‘trophy’ with an .844 DE

it’ll probably be like .600 next season

Kompakt Total Landscaping (Will M.), Friday, 2 July 2021 20:53 (three years ago) link

I submitted two 1DSes late today and got credit for neither. Oh well, not going to sweat it.

Planck Generation (James Redd and the Blecchs), Friday, 2 July 2021 20:59 (three years ago) link

One was Irish Rock, where I only missed one. The other was Golden Spheres, where I very carefully did the calculation but forget it said diameter and not radius.

Planck Generation (James Redd and the Blecchs), Friday, 2 July 2021 21:07 (three years ago) link

I got 7 right in Irish Rock and still ended up below the 50th %ile -- I'm kind of surprised the the Corrs question played relatively easy, as I had to dig really hard to remember their name.

I did better on the Bermanisms one though.

BABA BUOY (Leee), Friday, 2 July 2021 22:16 (three years ago) link

I had a hard time figuring out which questions to money in Irish Rock. Intellectually, I knew that I should money My Bloody Valentine (because indie) -- and if it were regular LL, I likely would've assigned it a 3 unless my opponent seemed particularly strong in popular music. But in the context of that 1DS, it just felt like a straight-ahead gimme. (By contrast, Bob Geldof *feels* more obscure to me, a name only old music nerds know. Ah well.)

jaymc, Saturday, 3 July 2021 04:55 (three years ago) link

Yeah. It seemed like it had that, um, classic problem of being pretty easy to answer, hard to money.
