HG Wells ... and Orson Welles

assert (matttkkkk), Friday, 2 July 2021 09:14 (two years ago) link

They did a radio show together - I think it's on YouTube

Zelda Zonk, Friday, 2 July 2021 09:16 (two years ago) link

But definitely odd to think of Wells knocking about in the 40s - I think of him as a Victorian writer

Zelda Zonk, Friday, 2 July 2021 09:20 (two years ago) link

Me too, and do you mean WOTW or another show?

assert (matttkkkk), Friday, 2 July 2021 09:32 (two years ago) link

No it was an interview, here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OIelwmldAdQ

Zelda Zonk, Friday, 2 July 2021 10:42 (two years ago) link

H.G. has got a squeaky little voice and an interesting accent.

Are Animated Dads Getting Hotter? (Tom D.), Friday, 2 July 2021 10:50 (two years ago) link

Didn’t hinder him from being popular with the womenfolk, from what I understand.

Planck Generation (James Redd and the Blecchs), Friday, 2 July 2021 10:53 (two years ago) link

Yes I was interested in his accent, fascinating to hear someone who was a young man in the 1880s. I'm assuming this wasn't a posh accent though - there's a recording of Virginia Woolf somewhere on YouTube and her accent is extraordinary!

Zelda Zonk, Friday, 2 July 2021 10:57 (two years ago) link

Yes, it's definitely a lower class accent - that was part of his attraction to all those posh women he bedded, bit of rough trade.

Yes, compare and contrast:

I've never even noticed that H.G. and Orson have the same (phonetic) last name.

pplains, Friday, 2 July 2021 12:31 (two years ago) link

wowwww at the Woolf recording. don't know what i expected her to sound like but it was never *that*.

And I IDed Ringo right away but then thought "Maybe that's Al Pacino..."

nickn, Sunday, 18 July 2021 22:00 (two years ago) link

I remember seeing that TV movie in the original 1978 broadcast when I just had learned Ringo was a Beatle

Josefa, Sunday, 18 July 2021 22:00 (two years ago) link

have not watched, but man, 1978 would have been a rough time for a Ringo TV special. i guess someone thought it might help him mount a comeback.

Say what you want about Kenny G, but in his defense, he is a Miles fan.
