not going to defend liam but people were really trying to convince me that it was just him who gave the band a bad name and that noel was the cool witty open minded one

I mean, Liam isn't the brightest but I think he's fundamentally just more open to things that Noel

Speaking to The Streets‘ Mike Skinner and Manchester Murkage Dave on their Spotify podcast, In The Third Person. Gallagher said: “Gene was into Arctic Monkeys big style and that, but now he’s fucking flipped. It’s all J Hus and Dave and all that, and every time we go out it’s all that stuff going on, which I know nothing about.”
When Skinner asked if Gallagher wanted the 17-year-old to form a band, he replied: “Yeah, but not necessarily a rock’n’roll band, d’you know what I mean? It’ll be interesting to hear his mix and how he brings all this grime stuff into his version of rock’n’roll, or guitar music, or whatever it is. You sort of throw everything in the pot and see what comes out.”
Discussing some of grime’s biggest names, Gallagher agreed with Skinner that Skepta is the biggest “rock star” in the country. He added that some musicians have the power to surpass genre. “I think they’re just stars aren’t they?” he said. “Whatever genre of music you’re in – it’s like I do fucking guitar music, they do whatever they do – there’s people that are bigger than their genre of music.”
when it comes to appealing to the mass collective, liam has it in the bag.
he plays the game far better.
i think his appearance at the manchester thing that ariana grande put on turned things around for him.
(as per indicated in the documentary that followed his post oasis/beady eye thing).
suspect the press re noel being on his boat that evening totally killed his options re the younger crowd, whereas young'uns genuinely love liam now.
noel is for the £50 quid fella/mojo readers only these days.
which is a weird turn of events given history.
once had hopes that noel would become interesting when he teamed up with David Holmes, but nah, just more of the same.
would still by the album he nearly made with AA/FSOL if it ever gets a release though.

two years pass...
Last night his show in Saratoga Springs, NY was cancelled after sets by the two openers (Metric and Garbage). About 20 minutes after his scheduled start time, audience members saw a handful of cops talking to venue staff, saw camerapeople abruptly packing up and leaving, and watched all the tour buses drive away. Then a notice appeared on the video screen asking everyone to evacuate. Apparently there was a bomb threat, but that wasn't verified until this morning. Some speculated that Noel was just being pissy because of the very low turnout (a couple acquaintances of mine were there and said it was the smallest crowd they'd ever seen at that venue).

Hahah having spent middle school years there in Saratoga and knowing SPAC well, filling out that venue seems...a little unlikely for him at this stage of his career.
