it just has to be britain though and we don't get much snow in blighty (or do anything to prepare for what we do get)

If it’s ERD rather than BRO, it could be Birmingham, I guess.

Scampo di tutti i Scampi (ShariVari), Wednesday, 9 June 2021 22:04 (two years ago) link

which line would that be on? i found a page listing all railway bridges in the uk, but it's organised by line (and pdfs so not searchable without having downloaded them first)

koogs, Wednesday, 9 June 2021 22:18 (two years ago) link

the roof railings (and general roof design for snow) are discussed here https://www.reddit.com/r/explainlikeimfive/comments/a8y39d/eli5_why_are_so_many_german_roofs_built_very/

bit surprised to see them in strasbourg tbh. can't imagine they get much snow there.

Could easily be brum, or any other city with large victorian brick infrastructure. Surprisingly hard to find a road that follows the curve of an elevated railway like that though, and the old fence at the top and the overgrowth suggest it's not an actual in-use railway line.

I was born anxious, here's how to do it. (ledge), Thursday, 10 June 2021 07:28 (two years ago) link

Its two bridges isn't it, not one

cherry blossom, Thursday, 10 June 2021 07:42 (two years ago) link

Which means lines diverging, which would make sense if this is close to a station

cherry blossom, Thursday, 10 June 2021 07:44 (two years ago) link

I am not totally convinced the main wall taking up much of the picture is an elevated railway but I can't really justify that past saying the cast iron fencing seems odd for a railway (even disused) and I'd kinda expect to see arches in a railway bridge. I realise this is not much help.

Tim, Thursday, 10 June 2021 08:43 (two years ago) link

(I mean it's quite likely it's a raised piece of railway, I'm just not sure it is)

Tim, Thursday, 10 June 2021 08:54 (two years ago) link

if only those letters were slightly more legible; going on koogs' station code theory i've been going through this list: https://www.nationalrail.co.uk/stations_destinations/48541.aspx (alphabetical by name not code) but no joy.

Guessing that the markings on the bridge on the background suggest it's at least low-ish, I've been trying to find an appropriate low bridge on here but I haven't got anywhere yet: https://www.truckingjobs.co.uk/2018/10/low-bridge-map-uk.html

Tim, Thursday, 10 June 2021 09:34 (two years ago) link

it could be a tunnel?

those plants don't look very northern to me. trying to think of somewhere grim and railway oriented in the SW.

I've spent a lot of time on Google Street view looking at UK cities trying to find old brick walls near railroad underpasses. Definitely found some spots with a similar vibe, but so far no joy.

(there's a yellow bus in the background of second pic and googling yellow buses had bournemouth as the first hit. BRO = bournemouth?)

I was wondering about the bus and Christchurch but I guess they probably share

i don't know if that was deliberate but making me click through ALL the storageking locations and have it be the very last one was mean.

storageking helpfully had images of the stores right there on the individual pages and a 'view on map' link. and most of them were just giant sheds on industrial estates.

now to find the railway bridge...

Haha I just lurk on this thread bit when I saw photo #3 I was going to drop in "that weirdly reminds me of Worcester but you all think it's in other parts of the country so I trust you".

it's the street I grew up on. Nobody thinks Worcester looks like this, people just know the nice bits.

I was looking at a lot of brick walls in Birmingham, so at least I wasn't too far away.

Nobody really seemed to have any real idea which part of the country it was in though, "Close to a station" was the only real consensus!
