― frogbs, Sunday, June 6, 2021 10:53 PM (forty-six minutes ago) bookmarkflaglink
I don't keep as close tabs on this shit as I used to, but iirc he has been much more consistent starter for his club team than Steffen has been for Man City, albeit Horvath plays in a much smaller league

Rewatching that missed penalty kick, was that encroachment from a player on the right? If he made it might it have been overturned? Mexico did so much dirty shit that game
― frogbs, Monday, 7 June 2021 05:19 (two years ago) link
you will NEVER see that called in a CONCACAF match, lol

Penalty decisions are always ludicrous in CONCACAF, such as the one in the Panama-Mexico 2015 Gold Cup Semifinal which almost lead the Panama team to rage quit (rightfully so)

somehow don't expect this to equal the Nations League match. esp given they're more B-squads.
maybe there will be lols? idk

I tend to think the Mexican Copa Oro squad is better than their Olympic team. I recognize a lot more names at least.

selfishly want Dike not to get subbed in today so he can play on Wednesday for Orlando City.
lol Tesho Akindele played in the Canada match last Thursday and then they put him in the 18 the very next night and he came off the bench against Atlanta.

they said Dike wasn't cutting it and needed new blood. fuck that - Dike woulda buried at least two of those. he doesn't lose control of the ball if you breathe on him, his hold up play is good, and his shot placement is on point.
when Zardes scores, it's cos the ball ricocheted off of his ass.

Think this was about their level.
Very interested in who the next coach is. I was never a complete hater but even if you go with an American there are better options than Berhalter.
Also anticipating who steps up: Paxton Aaronson, Pepi, Tillman, Slonina, Busio, and more including names we don't know yet.
Goalkeeping seems sorted after some absurd (for the US) uncertainty. Between Turner, Horvath, and Steffen things are pretty solid there.
Also there's the what if factor. Several players who likely would have been on the roster were injured. Chris Richards in particular could have been starting at CB, where they weren't really hurting until the final game where Netherlands let them have the ball and then picked off passes for counterattacks.
Overall, Adams, Musah, McKennie could probably be the midfield for another 8 years. Pulisic and Weah are solid on the wings for another cycle, Reyna who knows (but hopeful), and Dest/Jedi are also very good.
Finishing? Who knows. Ferreira and Wright both were top 3-ish in their respective leagues and had only a fluke goal between them to show for it in Qatar. Sargent has been doing well for Norwich but didn't show much either.
I have gotten more into this stuff bc I have a close friend who works with the team in a non technical role. Between the Klinsmann, Arena II, Sarachan, and now Berhalter eras it's a lot to take in. I think they're as good now as ever, with some growth, experience at clubs, and development of other spots on the field, who knows what could happen in 26 on concacaf turf?
Gotta be killers in comparison to today, though.
