tuning peg gone bad

The one I replaced was already a replacement and on backwards- it was a treble system used for the bass- which I copied and then had to undo. So then I went ahead and replaced the bottom system right away instead of waiting. And then I had this problem I often have when tuning the high strings that they come loose and I have to start over again. Always seem to forget that I can get away with two loops on the bass strings but need three on the treble to hold.

So sad
To watch tuning peg go bad

Many years ago, one of the bushing grommets once flew off my only guitar during the first song in my band's set at a high profile gig in front of hundreds of people.
Was horrendously out of tune and absolutely miserable throughout the set.

Wedged a piece of toothpick in there as a temp fix ahead of the following night's show, and it's still in there.

eleven months pass...

i have idea what thread to put this in so here goes

in all my life i have never tried replacing the strings on a nylon-string classical guitar. well now i need to and i realize i'm such an idiot that i don't even know how to. so i'm watching youtube videos. the first video i watched had a really nice guy with a canadian accent who says that the low E string will usually have an end that's wound tightly and an end that's wound loosely, and you want to put the loose end on the bridge:

for some reason i'm watching another video, that says the loose end goes up on the headstock! "very important"!

now a wise person might come away from this thinking that it doesn't matter very much, but now i'm just all in a tizzy, all jibber jabbing, talking to myself, what should i do??

side note: the strings on this guitar (GIVEN TO ME BY ERSTWHILE USER G00BLAR) were strung very nicely indeed. the little tails on the bridge were all cleverly interlocked with each other, in a solid plait

I’m very experienced with guitar maintenance and repair but I HATE stringing a classical. I’m terrible at it.

that makes me feel better. it actually wasn't too bad. i put the stiff end of the low E on the bridge cause it felt right. living dangerously.

I used this guide but I’m not sure that is an endorsement …

And I think you did right - the bridge end should be stiff and locked down, the tuner end should have slack and flexibility, I think.
