Penguin, are you from SoCal by any chance?...I've seen Oshiro's work a lot, and Rodriguez's as well down here.

I just want to mention that in no way, shape or form is Laura Owens allowed on this thread.

Yeah, I am, Robots. I saw the Oshiro piece at "Thing" at the Hammer, but he had a few shows elsewhere in LA that I'm sad I missed.

Thanks for the links and names and images, y'all.

I don't feel like googling up images, but...

Wim Delvoye
Julie Mehretu
Sarah Sze (as above)
Jim Hodges
Inka Essenhigh (the stuff painted in enamel on aluminum plates)
Ivan Albright

and as always my favorite cartoonists, like Jim Woodring, Robert Crumb, yak yak yak.

Those Asuka Ohsawa paintings are amazing.

They really need to be seen up close though -- lots of incredible detail.

Those Asuka Ohsawa paintings are amazing.

She had a show at Gallery 825 in Bergamot Station in Santa Monica; it ended on June 4. I think she's local, so keep your eyes open.

Jake and Dinos Chapman (more the small cute models and less the big fiberglass mutant kids)

Is that a photograph or is the diorama itself the piece?

walter kranz (walterkranz), Tuesday, 9 August 2005 22:42 (eighteen years ago) link

I believe that image is from 'Hell', which was series of dioramas.
