the thing to do with mice is to psychically tell them there are better places to be than your house. It totally works. at least, it works with insects; I bet with mice too.

we had a bit of a mouse problem earlier in the year. we caught one or two, per day, for a whole week!

HPSTRKRFT (haitch), Monday, 31 July 2006 01:29 (seventeen years ago) link

problem with the glue traps is sometimes you have to stomp a mouse to death to put it out of it's misery.

Alicia Titsovich (sexyDancer), Monday, 31 July 2006 01:38 (seventeen years ago) link

I remember about ten years ago, the family went to visit some farming relatives during a mouse plague. you'd wander around behind a shed and lift up a piece of corrugated iron, and it'd be "HI DERE, CARPET OF MICE". vile.

HPSTRKRFT (haitch), Monday, 31 July 2006 01:49 (seventeen years ago) link

i thought a large insect was running across the road but it was a small mouse

why has trap not gone off yet!?
i know that dude's just hangin out behind the stove!
Hammer and a nail, wtf? Surely there was a more humane way to go about this. Or why not just use the hammer?

with glue traps all you have to do is put it in a plastic bag and swing it into the curb. BAM

Machibuse '80 (ex machina), Monday, 31 July 2006 03:44 (seventeen years ago) link

Dude was an animal lover -- the nail went into the brain right away. Boom, dead. Less messy than a hammer.

gbx (skowly), Monday, 31 July 2006 03:44 (seventeen years ago) link

That's why ornaldo bloomps shoots the olephants in the eyes right?

Machibuse '80 (ex machina), Monday, 31 July 2006 03:49 (seventeen years ago) link

Still, think I will stick to firearms for the putting down of any animals, if forced. Hammer and nail just seems kinda of bizarre.

put glue traps in freezer! mouse falls asleep and freezes to death, i think

i caught the tiniest baby mouse yesterday before i moved out. he was crawling around on the stairs, getting his little claws stuck in the carpet. he was so small that the carpet ridges were like hills for him. i picked him up by the tail and put him in a box and fed him a nutri-grain bar. then i let him out in the grass and he kept getting stuck in the blades of grass, so small!

anyway, tehresa, i recommend glue traps (less humane, but when they're crawling around your food and making those gross scratching noises at night who cares), because snap traps seemed to take months to attract anything and left a puddle of blooooood all the time. they work for other people though, i dunno.

an exgirlfriend's mom once had to kill a pigeon with a cinderblock, after their cat had hopelessly mutilated it.

GLUE TRAPS DON'T WORK. THESE THINGS ARE TOO BIG

Machibuse '80 (ex machina), Monday, 31 July 2006 13:18 (seventeen years ago) link

oh you have like monster mice. i always had babies or pretty small adults :/

i think you can get rat size glue traps though!

nazi bikini (harbl), Monday, 31 July 2006 13:44 (seventeen years ago) link

it dug up the grout between tiles in the kitchen floor!? wtf?!
grout/dust/whatever (that floor is so gross)
looking for crumbs probably

Machibuse '80 (ex machina), Monday, 31 July 2006 14:01 (seventeen years ago) link

too bad we did not go for an aug 1 move!
mouse/rat is still here!

i did an experiment - washing kitchen floor, leaving for many hours, coming back to see if it had dug up floor again. it did. :( :( :(

how can it dig the floor so much yet not be suckered in by luscious peanut butter in the trap!?

that peanut butter is old also

Machibuse '80 (ex machina), Tuesday, 1 August 2006 10:30 (seventeen years ago) link

it's probably eating the floor due to pregnancy cravings.

killy (baby lenin pin), Tuesday, 1 August 2006 11:21 (seventeen years ago) link

they don't care how old the peanut butter is though. i would set a trap and wait literally 2 months or more and THEN they'd go for it, by that time i'd forgotten it was there and only the mouse stink let me know :(((((

nazi bikini (harbl), Tuesday, 1 August 2006 12:26 (seventeen years ago) link

it is like, natural peanut butter too. do you think they'd be more likely to go for a more popular, sweet brand?

yeah, maybe we sould just set like, 10 traps and it will have to run into one of them eventually.

i worked at a dentist's office that had rats. what always worked was to fill up a bucket with water and float some food in the middle. the rat would get in but he couldn't get out and he would drown. disgusting.

me: get one box gluetraps
John: need to get hole in wall plugged
me: there are no good deterents for rhodential pest control
yep
seal everything
no food etc in nonsealed containers
John: in SF we had an effective ultrasonic deterrent but these have failed me here
we have no food out

John: yes.

Jessie the Monster (scarymonsterrr), Monday, 11 September 2006 03:19 (seventeen years ago) link

I am totally naive for wanting to get a trap that just catches it so I can let it go outside? The glue traps suck (we had mice two years ago and the stupid things only managed to get stuck on EVERYTHING WE OWNED and if I have to see dead mice bodies I probably will cry.
