i saw this band live open for Lily Allen and thought "wow, there is nothing about this band i don't like." and then i bought the unbelievably bloodless no-fun record and thought "wow, there is nothing about this band i like."

what other stuff do you like in this (bloodless) vein?

somebody put this on an mp3 cd for me but i haven't listened yet.

I saw them open for Lily Allen and the lead singer was wearing a dress with a huge, wide plunging neckline and I swear she had no breasts. Completely flat, no nipples, no nothing. I keep thinking it was some sort of optical illusion.

I love this album (although I have to program one of the tracks out so my five year old can't pick up the language - the toilet mouths).

but the one before that (Now Please Clap Your Hands) was great

Maybe Kurstin used up all his good songs for the TashBed and Kylie albums.

"Birthday" is really moving, I think. That may be cos I first heard it in the week of my birthday though.

Listening to a leak of the new album and I have to admit there's a couple great songs on it.

Gosh, after resisting, I've realized that I'm a Broken Heart is a great great song. What a chorus.

This is called "Interpreting the Masters" and it's fucking awesome. I've been listening basically to it, H&O originals, repeat.

And it's on BLUE NOTE, per Wikipedia, wtf?

all their albums are on Blue Note. no idea why. funny to think people got up in arms about Norah Jones a few years ago.

can't work out whether i like or loath the hall and oates record. it's not as if they're making rock songs into pop or vice versa, or that there's some sort of real point to the re-interpretation. or improving them with better vocals (if anything the vocals are really lazy in comparison). and its very very greys anatomy. overall it just seems a bit...pointless. but i'm listening to it again for some reason.

yeah it's definitely kind of an odd exercise (especially given that they're just doing the hits, not salvaging any deep cuts), but it's still a really enjoyable record.

I keep revisiting this band and being pleasantly surprised. I think it's one of the few things I'm slightly embarrassed to admit I like.

new album leaked. on first spin, very solid. don't love her voice, but some great tracks

ooh, I'll have to pick it up. I like this group though when I first heard them I thought they were going to be some kind of neat take on that Freezepop/Peaches electroclash sound, classed up a bit and with a singer who can actually sing, I'm kind of disappointed that they turned out doing more of a 60's noir revival thing. I relistened to the first album, "I am Camera" still sounds awesome to me, though the album takes a massive dive right after. Would've been an amazing 7-song EP!

Listening to "Will You Dance?" To me this is boring adult contempo, but I do feel I'd enjoy hearing this band play some Hall and Oates.

They just released an album of Van Halen covers and it's great!

But what does some dude think? Was the 9 years worth the wait?

This is infinitely better than Pomplamoose.

ok I'm listening now and I'm impressed by how not-gimmicky it sounds

except for the songs that sound gimmicky no matter who does them like "Hot For Teacher"

Inara George's voice is really something

like I don't think using her in place of DLR (who always sung "like a girl" anyway) is too big a deal, but doing these songs without guitar is pretty interesting

Van Halen cover album still really good, idk if it says more about the Bird and the Bee or how immortal Van Halen's songs are. I just can't believe it actually works
