wutang isn't really for the children, though, is it? q.v. "Dogshit"

although i tear when ODB starts thanking the "teachers, the childrens, the munchkins playing hopscotch" at the end of "I Can't Wait".

Wutang is for the children in that they had the future of hiphop in mind.

ah, I checked six other wu-threads first, but there were too many!

I figured pizza was for the children.

ILX! IMPORTANT POST!

I am going to do a blog in which I track down and review every Wu song (as well as discuss major Wu talking points such as kung fu, 5% mathematics, drugs etc.) My Wu-Tang list is complete, I think. You should be able to see it here: https://docs.google.com/document/d/13EqG3Lzg19OAqfo-ZLqbLm9Ts9fFm5VLYfePE_vIpiQ/edit?hl=en&authkey=CPLcwlU

Notice anything big missing?
Notice anything wrong?
Anyone want to help me find it all? Especially the super rare stuff (All In Together Now seems like the biggest mystery)?

Peace Godz.

i only skimmed but i think you're missing

tekitha "back to 36"
masta killa "shaolin temple"

from the taste the pain soundtrack

Cappadonna has a guest verse on Genaside II's album New Life 4 the Hunted, on the track "Basic Killer Instinct". It also features Otherized F.A.M., who I think were Wu affiliates. I can share this with you if you want.

There was a 1997 movie soundtrack with a couple of Wu tracks, but I can't remember the movie title nor the track names, so I'm not sure if they're already on your list. I can check it out once I get home, I have that album somewhere.

Also, GZA, RZA and Dreddy Kruger have short guest spots on this Finnish rap album, tracks 2 and 12.

Ah yeah, this is the 1997 soundtrack I mentioned before. It has one Wu track, "Dirty the Moocher", a version of Cab Calloway's "Minnie the Moocher". It's credited to the whole Clan, but IIRC only ODB is on the vocals.

Great blog, but you had to expect this to kick up a little dust:

The time between A Low End Theory released in September ‘91 and Enter The Wu Tang (36 Chambers) is a barren waste land with only a handful of records worth checking (Whut? Thee Album and Business Never Personal stand out as the obvious contenders from 1992 and the debut record from Onyx hit in early ‘93).

1992 was the year of Mecca & the Soul Brother, Daily Operation Dead Serious & several DITC releases (Runaway Slave, Stunts, Blunts & Hip Hip & Return of the Funky Man).

President Keyes, Monday, 24 January 2011 12:16 (thirteen years ago) link

Isn't that directly followed with a list of records disproving that idea?

travel by railchoad (a hoy hoy), Monday, 24 January 2011 12:19 (thirteen years ago) link

Also it is more to show the change in hip-hop brewing up. I know gangsta rap had been floating around for a half decade but '92 was really the year NY rap started to get angry imo, which isn't really reflected in Showbiz and AG records.

Dunno if you are right though. Listening to Wu-Tang is basically a daily operation, with or without a blog.

travel by railchoad (a hoy hoy), Monday, 24 January 2011 13:29 (thirteen years ago) link

My effort so far has p much come down to 'stick a bunch of kung fu flicks on my lovefilm list, find out my copy of the how high soundtrack, order the tao of wu, read the wiki page on the 5% nation'. all of which were done in about 15 minutes.

travel by railchoad (a hoy hoy), Monday, 24 January 2011 14:52 (thirteen years ago) link

i am going to try and do everything! with hidden darts and comps like that i haven't yet decided whether to do things on a basis of when they actually became public or when they got official releases? i am thinking obvious stuff on the time line (all that ghost&cappa post-9/11 stuff shouldn't wait until like 2007 comes to mind) and then leave the rest for official releases

travel by railchoad (a hoy hoy), Monday, 24 January 2011 14:54 (thirteen years ago) link

i used to bump into these ppl online that seemingly only listened to wu & wu affiliated & wu producers, they always struck me as strange in the extreme so i hope u come back safe. la the darkman has like five mixtapes u know? :D

zvookster, Monday, 24 January 2011 14:59 (thirteen years ago) link

Ha. I listened to them as part of swag cru gangsta grillz, not as a wu-tang thing!

And yeah, I am definitely just going to do wu-affiliates when they were still with the clan. shyheim has released like 12 records but i'm only gonna do the first two etc.

it's hard to suss out who's an "affiliate" though...cuz like some could consider Cappadonna an affiliate but others would consider him fully vested in in Killa Bee 401k

or like Killah Priest? that's a tough call...Shyheim is an affiliate though

actually I would limit it to KP, Cap and then only proper Wu or official Wu members solo albums? otherwise shit am i gonna hafta sift through all the shit RZA has done?
