As far as ICP goez, I don't care one iota abt them. GWAR did it better (IE funnier, & produced by Jourgenson/Barker many years ago.

Bitchpork - is the unofficial Pitchforkmedia message board, and we share some posters with them. Naturally the posters who also post here are the most enlightened and witty. The thing that strikes me most about it, at least in comparison to here, is that the general idea seems to be that Pitchfork is awful and needs upbraiding, whereas some of the people posting here seem to think FT is a lot better than even I do. Where is Bitchpork to be found? Here. Caution: unwieldy interface.

This is my ICP story: Around 1998/1999 I was an art student in Michigan & I had driven to Detroit to walk around and take some photos for a project I was working on. When I was finished, I decided to have a bite to eat and a few beers at the Majestic Cafe, which is connected to a larger entertainment complex that contains the Majestic Theatre and the Magic Stick. As this was early evening and it was still light out, I didn't figure on much of anyone being around. I was wrong.

So I walked into the cafe, which has horseshoe-shaped bar, where most who enter gather, and sat down. I ordered my food & libations and started chatting with a group of friendly fellows who were also seated at the bar. As time passed, an aggregation of painted youths started to gather around the cafe doors and windows. Many of them were trying desperately to get in, but by this point security had cordoned off the door and seemed prepared to slap the fuck out of any clown kid who gave them shit (if you're a Detroit concert goer, you know who the venues hire as bouncers - many of them members of greaser-punk gangs like the SIDs etc. - mean motherfuckers). One of the dudes I was chatting with then informed me that I had unwittingly stumbled upon a pre-party for the ICP/Twiztid show taking place later that night at The Majestic. I had only been allowed in b/c I was carrying a camera and appeared dissimilar enough from your average Juggalo that the staff must've assumed I was press or something. Anyway, so sans-facepaint Twiztid and ICP members, who were not nearly as thickheaded as you'd think, then preceeded to comp my food and drinks and put me on the guest list for their show (I didn't stick around - but I might've if not for other goings on in Ann Arbor that I wanted to get back to). Totally friendly dudes! So I guess I'm down with the clown (p.s. all their music sucks fag donkey balls though and all Juggalos are pansy-ass bitchez).

Well, there's definitely Twizted, Esham, Marz, Myzery, Blaze Ya Dead Homie, and Dark Lotus. I can't get into them like ICP, though. (Maybe it's the sense that a surprisngly successful piece of shtick is now being milked like a crack-whore cow. I don't know.)

A coworker in Detroit used to live above the Magic Stick in 1996 or 1997. She and her roommates used to rain potatoes down on the Juggalos.

Was she a part of that whole Warn Defever record store/recording studio gang? If so, I've probably met her. Good folks, them.

I don't think she was - she was kind of a no-bullshit, not particularly musical chick from Warren. She just really, really hated Juggalos.

i feel like everyone conceded that icp kinda rules after 'magnets how do they work' but idk there really is something overall positive about their whole thing, once you get past the heavily-foregrounded murderous clown affect

i saw them last night actually and you get the feeling that these people haven't been treated very well by society and it allows them a sense of belonging and solidarity. sort of obvious but it was palpable.
