"Vila Sesamo" is the soundtrack to the Brazilian "sesame street", circa '74 or so. If that sounds appealing, then it is exactly as good as you want it to be, although I imagine a basic working knowledge of portuguese would dull some of the charm (but maybe not). I know it came through dusty groove recently alongside a slew of reissues from "Som Livre", I also grabbed Tom Ze's "Nave Maria" (good, but lots of tunes that appear elsewhere in re-recordings) and "Brazilian Octopus", a sort of twisted early-bossa-jazz combo featuring Hermeto Pascoal on flauta.

Anyway, if this kind of thing looks interesting i'd checkout the dustygroove site/store post haste, there are some other amazing records among these reissues as well.

I'd say all his albums from 1968 (maybe before - but I've not heard them) until 1973-ish will do it for you - except Samba 68 which is rather cheesy and insubstantial, and seemingly geared to the American market.

I think my favourite for all-round consistency, tunefulness and general grooviness is Mustang Cor De Sangue. But others like Vento Sul, Garra, the one with the bed on the cover etc are all incredibly varied and all-round fab. Often he includes some really out-there, experimental tracks, too, as well as the odd acid-rock freakout (esp. on Vento Sul), not to mention the odd lush, Morricone-esque piano-and-strings-based instrumental. He really was a genius in his day.
These albums are a bastard to track down, though. Some of them I only have on dodgy vinyl reissues of dubious provenance - and on which the sound quality is pretty chronic.

Previsão do Tempo, what a great album

― Shin Oliva Suzuki

Here here. Been listening to this album a lot recently and every track is killer. Valle is up there with Veloso as my favourite Brazilian musician (don't get the love for Jorge Ben).

'Vento Sul' is not far behind. Picked up the Light in the Attic reissue last year.

He's playing Glasgow Jazz Festival in June. How is he live? Is it worth trying to go if I'm a little interested?

Those four albums Light In The Attic reissued are amongst my favourite music ever produced. Also really love the funky Vontade De Rever Você; haven't totally gotten into the self-titled one from the early 80's tho.

Anyone excited to see him w/ Azymuth? Playing all over the place, I'll see him in London.

Telenovela soundtrack almost entirely written by the Valle brothers. If you ever wanted the Valle take on John Barry check out "Ligação".
