Best final post-1969 film by someone who won the Palme d'Or between 1949 and 1969

Oh, and strictly speaking it wasn't the Palme d'Or for some of these years, so going by whatever the top Cannes prize was, as per Wikipedia

Malle made two films after Milou en Mai - Damage and Vanya on 42nd Street.

Damn. So he did. Not sure how I cocked that up. Consider a vote for Milou en Mai to be one for Vanya on 42nd Street

L'innocente / The Innocent (Luchino Visconti, 1976)

I've seen three: L'Innocente is probably a better Visconti film than Obscure Object is a Buñuel film. Filming Othello is worth watching but it's basically a DVD extra ahead of its time.
I was put off watching the Antonioni film because to this day I'm not clear how much of it he actually directed.

There's an utterly bizarre scene in L'Innocente where a maid runs into a room, picks a baby out of its cradle and screams, "Mamma mia! It's dead, it's dead", etc. while the live baby onscreen in her arms is squirming and moving.

The Antonioni film is horrible. I wouldn't recommend it.

Best part of the Antonioni film is him hanging out with Mastroianni in the making of doc.

All I remember about it is Irène Jacob as a nun telling her suitor that if she were to have an affair with him it would be like lighting a candle in a room full of the light of Jesus or something. Which I guess had some power if it’s stuck with me for 30 years.

Though, I have a feeling that line is in the trailer, which I probably saw a couple of times too and there’s nothing like the power of repetition.

I don't know anything about Michel Camus, but one of only two imdb reviews for Bahia is tantalizing, given its obscurity:

I love the thought of the perfect memory of this song staying with him for 30 years.

Still more or less my favourite film of all time

I voted for Beyond the Clouds for sentimental reasons, because I saw it at the NYFF.

Figured the winner would win. Recall that Musketeers film being pretty good.
