Ban oxygen

Rust is not the process of iron destroying itself; oxygen is destroying the iron through oxidation. It takes two (elements) to tango (oxidise), e.g. aluminium is much smarter & forms a clear impermeable oxide, protecting the metal from further damage.

I feel like this is actually..... how relationships are typically presented in any novel/TV show/movie where "a crisis in the relationship" isn't the plot?

I feel like some people literally just want a movie where everybody gets along and are good people and have fun and nothing really happens
― making splashes at Dan Flashes (Neanderthal), Friday, 16 July 2021 15:47 (two years ago) link
At his TIFF press conference in 1996, Godard said that's what he wanted from a film (minus the getting along, good people and having fun).
― Halfway there but for you, Friday, 16 July 2021 15:50 (two years ago) link
for instance, the In the Heights movie made some pretty serious changes to the plot from the original musical, cutting the entire frosty relationship between Benny (a Black character) and Kevin (a Hispanic character, whose daughter Benny wants to date). in the musical, Kevin doesn't think Benny is good enough for her and also doesn't want her to date someone who isn't Hispanic and tries to interfere, and it's a huge plot point. and they got rid of it entirely, the two characters are perfectly friendly.
one of my friends praised this decision, thrilled that there was no longer this 'ugliness'. i was like...they got rid of one of the biggest conflicts in the musical and ...that's a good thing?

getting really sick and tired of people "exposing" hypocritical conservative logic on social media. they don't give a solitary fuck that they're being hypocritical. they love the fact that they're being illogical because they love watching people twist themselves into pretzels trying to untangle their bullshit.
conservatives don't care that our founders wanted separation between church and state, they don't care about small government. shut the fuck up!!!
― grove street (party) direction (voodoo chili), Friday, 3 September 2021 14:59 (two years ago) link
guess i should provide an example. mainly i'm seeing people share screenshots of viral tweets like this one
News flash: If you ban mask mandates, outlaw abortions, dictate what educators can teach in schools, and stop people from voting, you're not the party of "limited government."— Robert Reich (@RBReich) September 1, 2021
yeah I get tired of that shit for that reason. at least share gif memes that are educational, and they do exist.

yes pointing out conservative hypocrisy lost its utility like, a decade ago at least
― global tetrahedron, Friday, 3 September 2021 15:31 (two years ago) link
i always view conservative hypocrisy posts as entertainment for the type of people who share them and not a genuine attempt at arguing with conservatives
they never work because convincing someone they're being hypocritical relies on you getting them to admit that they said/believed/claimed/did/agreed with 2 separate things. it's difficult enough to get a conservative to commit ideologically to one thing. getting them to commit to two different things at the same time is nearly impossible.

i think one of the reasons why it bothers me is because it conveys a feeling of smug superiority while also drastically underestimating the damage this kind of worldview is capable of. it reassures people of their inherent correctness, and fortifies a false belief that the fact that they're correct means fuck all.

I'm not much of a Facebook user, but I've been finding myself going there more frequently just to look at sponsored or recommended content. The stuff I get is 50% music related and the other 50% is made up of weird art or food tricks, dudes doing crazy parkour or other extreme sports shit, and stuff like the craziest waterslide down the side of a Chinese mountain.
I'm not sure that this is healthy behavior, but I'm also not sure that it is inherently bad either.

getting really sick and tired of people "exposing" hypocritical conservative logic on social media. they don't give a solitary fuck that they're being hypocritical.
And why should they? Anti-hypocrisy is standard-issue "the wise man bowed his head solemnly and spoke: "theres actually zero difference between good & bad things. you imbecile. you fucking moron" stuff. Conservatives, like liberals, want government to be empowered to do things they think are good and prevented from doing things they think are bad.

A while back whilst riding and docking a rent-a-bike I noticed there was a cool-looking small press headquarters around the corner from my favorite restaurant near my old office. Eventually through an unrelated channel I got to know someone who worked there and he invited me in. There were some interesting doodles on the wall which I asked about. They turned out to be by Kurt Vonnegut.

the latest chain message on FB:
"Must Read !!!About 6 months ago, my neighbor asked me if I wouldn't mind sharing my Wi-Fi password. I decided to give it to him because it wouldn't cost me anything extra, and because I got along with him. Yesterday, as I was getting out of the car, the neighbor was at his door, getting ready to come outside. I stopped to talk a bit as he held the door open. He happily told me he now had Netflix. At that, jokingly I said: ′′I work hard, I barely have time to watch TV, but, if you could lend me your password to watch some shows, I would appreciate it ". A voice was heard in the distance, coming from inside the house. It was his wife, ′′We can't give the password to her, because I'm the one who pays the bill and I can't share it." The man apologized and I said it was no problem. We kept talking about other things, and as I left, he stayed working outside. When I happened to look outside a little while later, I noticed the man's wife come outside. She seemed very nervous and upset. They both went into the house. After a few minutes, he and his wife came to my door to tell me the Wi-Fi password wasn't working anymore. I looked at them and said, ′′ I changed my password, because it's me paying the bill and I can't share it ". The wife turned red and tried to say something, but I said, ′′Ma'am, I have my network and you have your Netflix, everything is fine and everyone is happy". They turned around and left. They never spoke to me again._______________________________This story isn't mine, but here's the lesson I learned from it:- Friendship must be mutual.- Love must be mutual.- Affection must be mutual. In 2022 (and beyond) I intend to returnsilence with silence, absences with absences, affection with affection, friendship with friendship, andloyalty with loyalty. No more one-sided feelings.Feelings must be mutual.I am no longer the same."
