An embarrassment of riches, in the end I had to go with "Elephant."

Want to give "Emmylou" some love as I doubt it will even get a vote but there are just too many good songs on here. I like that there is a Spotify link, going to try and listen to a few of my favorites again before making up my mind.

i was not able to listen to this full playlist, went again for an earworm of this year "I Love It."

Bee OK, Tuesday, 1 June 2021 18:24 (two years ago) link

Incredible line-up which would make a sick playlist I feel. Could vote for any of about 10 of these.

Voted Death Grips in the end, which is a lot of fun for a song that's so vicious.

The correct song won

surprised that "Pyramids," "Latch," Rhye and even Taylor Swift all got shut out. shows how great this year actually was.

Bee OK, Wednesday, 2 June 2021 07:09 (two years ago) link

Solid top three. Such a great year.

Kendrick Lamar - "Bitch, Don't Kill My Vibe" would have gotten my vote. nowadays, I consume so much music and paradoxically (pre-pandemic) had so little time to listen to it, that it made little sense for me to say "such and such was the album that best represented <year>" anymore, but Good Kid, m.a.a.d. City was a rare exception, as I spun the fuck out of that for over a year.

will never forget the mindblowing live performance he put on at the University of Central Florida. best hip hop show I'd ever seen before or since

REALLY loved Frank Ocean's "Pyramids" that year too. it was a hip-hop/R&B heavy year for me

might be an edit idk

that's pleasant enough. the winner isn't exactly bad either. but its running away with this is mystifying to me. as is the general acclaim for all this nu disco stuff. i'd rather listen to funkytown or something. or about 10 of the other tracks on here

There is a whole bunch of songs with zero votes that are straight excellent. 2012 was a special year.

Van Horn Street, Wednesday, 2 June 2021 21:29 (two years ago) link

"Adorn" is jam of the decade. Better list than the others posted so far.

"I Love It" is objectively terrible.

Inspector Norse was a zeitgeist hit on dance floors everywhere - at least the ones I frequented. I heard it in the wild out in the park just last weekend

octobeard, Tuesday, 8 June 2021 06:40 (two years ago) link

thought perhaps we had moved on past the stage where we we would get drive-by "that song you love objectively sucks!" in threads, apparently not.
