To be fair the system works most of the time, in that somebody visibly five yards offside is allowed to run through and score before the flag goes up so we all get to see a fun goal even if it doesn't actually count

Seems to be just Liverpool and Man City it doesn't apply against. Although iirc the offside rule is occasionally rewritten mid-match to benefit Man City anyway. Football is hard! ¯\(°_o)/¯
