So was looking for an old post of mine from ILM and found this, New Mavel films which may have been the first post on ILX re the MCU

obviously I misspelled Marvel, but was interested to see the initially planned/announced films such as Shang-Chi (which obv has ended up being what 15, 20 movies on?)

I do not trust this review

I trust that review but only insofar as his descriptions of the show are accurate representations of just how not funny it is.

The fact that this was actually made by the Robot Chicken animation studio kinda seals the deal for me to the extent that the deal wasn't already pretty much sealed.

I find a lot of Robot Chicken funny but most of it is due to Seth Green afaict

There's a tease, and then there's "here's two minutes of solemn figures standing and looking solemn."

So again, knowing nothing myself, are there people out there that will Jolie as Queen Spaceathena and think, "zomg, she nails it, I am so psyched!' For sure, I'd totally believe it, just have no idea.

Lol, I have met people, but most importantly I was once a 13-year old boy who had a little calendar where I would scribble down the release dates of awesome movies I was psyched to see, like "Dead Heat." So I guess I knew the answer already.

Only Kirby/von Daniken stans are pre-stoked for this, guessing. Plus fans of the actors and anyone who's enjoying a more diverse MCU. The Celestials are pretty cool (as shown in a GotG scene). Kirby gave them fun names like Bill the Judger and Tim the Improver (not really), but they aren't humanized and don't talk. One of the Eternals, Ajak, interprets for them, so they just stand about ominously.

The Eternals to me were a strange "the gods are based on them" variant in a comics universe that had already incorporated Greek and Norse gods (and other mythologies?), so felt superfluous and conflicting. Also, I'm not a huge Kirby fan, so big panels of cosmic Kirby machines weren't awesome. Going into this with no expectations, so hopefully will be surprised.

With Mordo? He's returning in DS 2, In the Multiverse of Madness. The Wikipedia entry states In the film, Strange unleashes an unspeakable evil as he faces a friend-turned-enemy, which seems like a Mordo / Nightmare combo based on other news. Scarlet Witch and Miss America (character who apparently opens doors to alternate realities?) also included.

I've seen rumors that Shuma-Gorath may be the heavy (or a heavy, at least) in DS2, pursuing America Chavez through the multiverse.

I am actually super psyched to see America Chavez on-screen, but I might be the only one.

Originally should've been out in late 2020 (four years after the first, and one year after Endgame). Forgot about the director turnover and Raimi eventually getting the job, and obviously COVID didn't help...

Kirby had no intention of setting the Eternals in the mainstream Marvel continuity, and in fact bristled when the likes of Roy the Boy, Mark Gruenwald and other kontinuity kops at Marvel tried to fit it in with the marvel cosmology…one of the oldest comics I have is the issue of thor in the middle of what is retroactively known as the eternals saga after Jack's eternals series proper ended in which Roy the Boy crowbarred the eternals and the celestials alongside the Marvel Asgard, Olympus, etc etc

Those guys called him "Jack the Hack" at the time, being as his dialogue was pretty jagged and his art so defiantly stylized…was jack gonna try to be more like Neal Adams? Not bloody likely! He had no interest in fitting everything tidily together, the way Thomas, Gruenwald and indeed the Marvel fanbase desired… I gotta say that I love that Roy thomas during this run was so gripped by his compulsion that part of the above run saw him devote several issues to why the blonde thor doesn't resemble the red-haired bearded lout that Norse myth tended to represent…

Thanks for that explanation. As a kid, maybe was conditioned to expect connections and want the tidiness. Marvel Team-Up combining Spider-Man with Killraven and Conan, etc.
