Artificial harmonics are cool

"I Remember You" sounds weirdly proto-Billy Corgan right now.

"Wasted Time" otoh makes me think a bit of My Chemical Romance.

I'll always be a sucker for

Boss screaming in my ear about who I'm supposed to be
"Get a 3-piece Wall Street smile and son you'll look just like me."
I said "Hey man, there's something that you ought to know
I tell you Park Avenue leads to Skid Row!"

That new-ish oral history of pop metal dwells on Slave to the Grind and SR's enthusiasm about their hardest album or something.

"They call us problem child" always bothered me a little but yeah, remembering "Youth Gone Wild" was what led to this thread.

When Slave to the Grind came out, Skid Row toured with Pantera as their opener.

Saw them nearly 30 years ago opening up for GNR at the Starplex in Dallas.

Even the guitar solo! It got my vote but YGW also a quality pick.

JCLC otm, there are some other great singles but "Youth Gone Wild" deserves the win.

i voted for I Remember You for my teenaged self who played the cassingle on repeat for like a year

mr veg worked some SF shows when Skid Row was opening for GNR & said that Sebastian Back never bathed & that the smell radiated off him in waves & working front of stage security was deeply unpleasant :/

I don't think I ever saw their attempt to stay afloat in the Soundgarden era. It's ... not terrible!

two months pass...

I listened to the s/t walking to and from the grocery store yesterday. The singles hold way the eff up. And despite having heard it probably dozens of times since it's release, 'I Remember You' inexplicably got me a little misty-eyed. Just rememberin' yesterday, I guess.

P.S. I immediately went in search of that Nothin' But a Good Time book mentioned upthread (I've been on a bit of a kick lately) only to discover that, uh, there's apparently another book about the subject being released soon under the same exact title. Wut.

always loved monkey business

Tracer Hand, Friday, 13 August 2021 13:16 (two years ago) link

not a single, but The Threat from Slave to the Grind is a terrific snarling rock song with killer riffs.

would have voted Monkey Business in this poll.
