no denying they are overflowing with ideas and ambition but I just have not been able to get into this yet. I liked the last one too but I think these lyrics are preventing me from really clicking with it. Going to keep trying.

the second one, palms, is my least favorite thrice album (after their earliest material). to be everywhere is to be nowhere is really solid tho

palms may seem more transitional in retrospect once this new record is out

thrice album is their best in a very long while, splits the difference between their exploratory radioheadish side and what i'm gonna characterize as their house style of "sludge emo" without spilling over into butt rock (both of the albums before this are guilty)

No talk/love for the new TWIABP record, Illusory Walls, released yesterday? Figured it was perfect for this thread.

I am really enjoying its ambition, scope and almost, at times, progressive metal edge, but I can see it alienating their more traditional or emo-revival fans. Also not sure if those aforementioned qualities will hold up well upon repeated listens, but for now it is probably my fave AOTY.
