come to think of it, the harmonies in the chorus (which are what MAKE the track imo) also sound a little bit like remain-in-light era talking heads, but like joyful rather than aggressive and cocaine-y.

the video seems like it's in conversation with roisin's 'plaything' video (which is superior imo but i mean it's hard to top)

“Hot N Heavy” is another stunner.

yeah wow, ridiculous that her outtakes are this good, why wasn't it just straight up a double album lol

ufo, Friday, 4 June 2021 00:06 (two years ago) link

yes, both these tracks are as good as most anything on the album

jeez, dance floor anthem if i've ever heard one

Linda and Jodie Rocco (map), Friday, 4 June 2021 21:22 (two years ago) link

omg "Eyes Closed"

self-clowning oven (Murgatroid), Friday, 11 June 2021 03:37 (two years ago) link

oh my god "pale blue light"

all these songs are so good, she really should have released it as a double album straight up lol

ufo, Friday, 11 June 2021 04:37 (two years ago) link

wish there was just one more track released from these sessions so i could sequence a perfectly symmetrical double album

ufo, Friday, 11 June 2021 08:03 (two years ago) link

I don’t know, I listened to this today and apart from the two pre-released songs and “Overtime” I was like “these are fun but I get why they were cut from the album.” I mean it’s all great but I think a much longer album would have been exhausting. I think she has broadly made the right call here.

Tim F, Friday, 11 June 2021 08:46 (two years ago) link

well yeah, it would have been exhausting as any 90 minute album would be exhausting but still, they're all as good as the songs on the actual album

self-clowning oven (Murgatroid), Friday, 11 June 2021 11:12 (two years ago) link

the material here is so good that i think she could have gotten away with it is the thing

ufo, Friday, 11 June 2021 11:20 (two years ago) link

The songs are all good enough to be a standalone mini-lp/ep instead of the bonus material on a deluxe reissue, but $$$

Johnny Fever, Friday, 11 June 2021 13:28 (two years ago) link

Loooving "Hot and Heavy", what a vibe. Could have easily seen this as a double album, the quality of these eight tracks is high

Vinnie, Saturday, 19 June 2021 00:13 (two years ago) link

highlight of the bonus tracks might be "0208" for me, yet again I'm perplexed by ILX's indifference to Kindness

self-clowning oven (Murgatroid), Saturday, 19 June 2021 01:45 (two years ago) link

The Kindness debut album is perhaps one of my favorite albums of the 2010’s and much of it is how it sounds. I’m not sure if it’s because Erol Alkan was involved or what happened afterwards that I haven’t been as attracted to his music ever since. Maybe I just changed. I still play the debut often, though.

ILM likes him iirc?

✖✖✖ (Moka), Sunday, 20 June 2021 04:30 (two years ago) link

Y'all have sold me on checking it out

Vinnie, Sunday, 20 June 2021 12:40 (two years ago) link

i've never really listened to kindness's solo work but i probably should considering how consistently strong he is as a collaborator

ufo, Sunday, 20 June 2021 12:43 (two years ago) link

just want to mention that Kindness uses they/them

very shitty recording of the broadcast audio of "free yourself" here, very promising despite the quality

album is apparently almost done and now scheduled for next year, would be a bit surprised if we don't get a single before the end of the year though

I hope this is the Stuart Price of Jacques Lu Cont remixes and big disco moments, not the Stuart Price of Take That album productions

the shitty recording of "free yourself" from glastonbury was great so i don't think there's anything to worry about

nice, gospel disco vibes

"save a kiss" is such a Robyn track (or could be the other way around)

corrs unplugged, Wednesday, 20 July 2022 08:16 (one year ago) link

I think I’ve played it approx 20 times today and I’ve finished each listen completely breathless - it’s too soon to call it her best track, but it definitely feels like her biggest.

Also the Glastonbury performance of it is now on Youtube which may be of interest to anyone else like me who’d been living off the scraps of the bootleg snippets for the past month

monotony, Wednesday, 20 July 2022 13:11 (one year ago) link

also the new album is coming Q1 2023 which I am guessing is because of vinyl production delays (on BBC Radio 1 yesterday she said the record was done)
