I played an indoor jazz gig in a large space last night, very distanced, no masks necessary at tables, required when people got up/moved around.
The big difference from playing the same gig back in February was that almost no one watched or donated on the livestream, whereas we made like $1100 only 2.5 long months ago.
The weather makes a huge difference since it was -30 then, but it also felt pretty clear that people are edging back toward doing things in person and even if they're not quite ready, they're definitely over watching livestreams.

the European Song Contest (which was cancelled last year) will go ahead in less than three weeks’ time in Rotterdam with a limited audience - as one of the experiments I think morrisp was referring to (in the Dutch case for both indoor and outdoor events):https://eurovision.tv/story/eurovision-song-contest-fieldlab

I work with a gal who’s seen Dave Matthews play over 30 times; she just bought tix to see him both nights when he comes through town. Music’s back, baby!

Washington DC is the home of "Do The Standing Still." When a band I want to see is at the venues I want to attend, I will be there, BAY-BEE.

I see endless local gigs advertised for the coming weeks, overwhelmingly domestic acts plus almost-domestic-acts-from-places-with-no-COVID like (as ufo mentioned upthread) The Beths. More puzzling are seemingly legit listings for the likes of The Hold Steady in a few weeks. Would have guessed restricted flights and onerous quarantine requirements would still preclude US visitors.

Do you mean actual advertisements, or things that might be artifacts of CMS entries from 18 months ago?

Looks like the Hold Steady do have three Australia dates scheduled for end of May, if that’s what we’re talking about.

(Their last dates before that are May 5–7 in Toronto; which presumably allows for a quarantine window?)

Ticket sales. BUT it appears to be May 2022! I read 2021 elsewhere in the listings. Whoops.

Oh yeah, my bad. haha (It’s confusing because they actually do have a few 2021 dates scheduled, then it jumps a year)

I just think there are so many variables at this point that it's really difficult to predict. As stated upthread, ask me again in Fall.

exactly; this not meant as an insult, but I cannot imagine how anyone can possibly have any opinion other than this

(I realize it was posted in February but there are still many variables)
