Damn - slim-fit tapered. We might be heading in opposite directions. Maybe I'm two years behind the curve. For non-work life I've been 501CT for the past few years. Weirdly some of them are sorta loose like more of a 501 and some seem kinda slim after heavy use. I guess they are not exactly the same off the rack and some shrink in the wash eventually and some don't. That's life.

the thing is i’m freakishly skinny so 512s kinda work on me. i doubt i’ll ever wear relaxed fit or flared jeans. i’d look like a mast.

I wanted a pair of wayfarers for a long time but they always look terrible on me. Plus there's too many things you can't pair them with without looking like you're going to an 80's night or dressing as a Blues Brother for Halloween.

The challenge with "classic" sunglasses IMO is finding something that doesn't look too alpha douchebag. I need something more gender-neutral.

I have an interview/meeting coming up where it would be a good idea to look like I'm doing well for myself, so i read several variations on "how to dress rich without spending a fortune" today. Made me feel totally clueless/oblivious, never realized my clothes were making the opposite statement, i really don't think i can pull this off. They're like, "wear a watch!! Watches always look ugly/baroque!!!" I might have uh, a dead freestyle shark with the velcro strap somewhere.

Mostly out of denim over the covid year - I've basically just worn 4 pairs of trousers - green combats, green fatigues, navy combats, navy fatigues, all from sauce zhan on Aliexpress. Good fabric.

But since getting a pup I've just gone for the combats. Need the extra pockets for poo bags, treats, ball, storing random things pulled from his mouth.

Office casual dress in the 2000s meant a transition from boxy business suits which were comfortable to wear all day to slimmer suits more tailored for social events and special occasions. Now we're transitioning to a permanent working-from-home situation, I'm waiting on the arrival of the "business pyjama"

Urbandn hope all ye who enter here (dog latin), Friday, 23 April 2021 14:13 (three years ago) link

Dog Latin, that is a really interesting insight!

Under most normal working circumstances, I have never been uncomfortable in a dress shirt, tie, sportcoat, or suit. If they're good clothes and they fit, you should be able to wear them without feeling constricted. Like, my thing has always been that if a shirt is uncomfortable, it's the wrong size.

However, I never got round to adopting the skimpy 00s suit styles. So I didn't experience what those clothes felt like to wear for extended periods of time.

jeans are too stiff and heavy who can bear to wear such hard pants in this day and age

lag∞n, Friday, 23 April 2021 14:39 (three years ago) link

Was jeans-only for so many years before taking a hard turn into Gramicci and Nike ACG only and my legs couldn’t be happier tbh

crisp, Friday, 23 April 2021 14:46 (three years ago) link

I've been eyeing some Nike SB pants that are elastic waist. Aside from swim trunks, running shorts, and pajama pants, I don't think I've worn something with an elastic waist as an adult.

my neighbor is a regional sales person for a large NE based brewing company who makes a brand of hard selzer; she had dozens of boxes on her porch a few weeks ago and we made a joke about wtf she was buying from amazon and she revealed that she had boxes and boxes of truly branded 'couch couture' athlesiure wear:

now my whole family has ridiculous colorful gradient sweatsuits and they are kind of amazing

joygoat, Friday, 23 April 2021 18:00 (three years ago) link

i should note that for 95% of the past year I've worn levis, a black t-shirt, and a black hoodie so wearing a red-to-purple sweatsuit around feels extremely jarring

joygoat, Friday, 23 April 2021 18:02 (three years ago) link

those are pretty sick tbh

lag∞n, Friday, 23 April 2021 18:03 (three years ago) link

Yeah I'm still nowhere close to actually wearing sweatpants, but if I did, it would be those! I would wear the sweatshirts for sure. Where do we get 'em?

xps jim- where’d you find the aqua mocs ? tried last summer but couldn’t find em

call me old fashioned but i still think sweatpants (joggers are sweatpants) in public are only appropriate when you are going to or from the gym

two weeks pass...

Fellas, where can I get chino shorts w a v short inseam, 5" or less? So far I've found Chubbies, J Crew, and J Crew Factory, the Chubbies are 4" which is great but idk how I feel abt stretch khaki and also they are S/M/L/XL instead of actual waist sizes

Warmed Regards, (Stevie D(eux)), Monday, 10 May 2021 16:26 (two years ago) link

I suppose I could get longer shorts and get them hemmed but I want them snug in the thigh and not loosey-goosey

Warmed Regards, (Stevie D(eux)), Monday, 10 May 2021 16:26 (two years ago) link

You could roll em up! That's what I do

Tracer Hand, Monday, 10 May 2021 16:27 (two years ago) link

Ya, this is what I've done for like a decade, but I want to see if I can manage to find a clean non-cuffed leg that is still profanely short.

the tailor at the dry cleaners where i get stuff hemmed can also take in the inseam. i recently accidentally bought some insanely wide legged carhartts (due to covid no try on policy at thrift stores) and got em fixed for p cheap

flopson, Monday, 10 May 2021 17:07 (two years ago) link

Stevie I'm seeing you wearing some of those, like, shorts that Stefan Edberg used to wear to play tennis

Adoration of the Mogwai (Deflatormouse), Tuesday, 11 May 2021 04:49 (two years ago) link

I think Ralph Lauren Andrew shorts are 5" but they're pleated with a high waist, you're probably looking for a slimmer fit.

Adoration of the Mogwai (Deflatormouse), Tuesday, 11 May 2021 04:51 (two years ago) link

Honestly it's not hard to find what you're looking for, I have a lot of them, but I think i mostly got em secondhand

Adoration of the Mogwai (Deflatormouse), Tuesday, 11 May 2021 04:53 (two years ago) link

Feel like it's time I treated myself some new jeans. Jeans range massively in price and the fashionable cut of jeans seems to change every few years.
Ordering online for jeans feels hazardous as I know that in the past I've had to try on at least 5 pairs in a shop before finding one that fits just right.
My last pair was a nice charcoal pair from Replay and before that I got a nice blue pair from a company called Neuw (both purchased fairly cheaply at TK Maxx for about £40-£50).

But yeah, without wanting to spend a small fortune, what are people digging these days? Especially interested in jeans available in the UK for under a ton.

I need to find casual pants that are not jeans, I've been in a real jeans rut, but anything else feels like I'm dressing up when I want to just keep it chill

Mr. Cacciatore (Moodles), Wednesday, 12 May 2021 14:17 (two years ago) link

Yep, I feel a bit like that. Especially since I live in a very boho area where even wearing a shirt makes me feel like Little Lord Fauntleroy.

lag∞n, Wednesday, 12 May 2021 14:32 (two years ago) link

the cuts really don't change that much. pedal pusher style short legs have been popular for a little while, looser cuts, but all the old straight-leg and skinny styles are still very much available. i will probably wear 510s or 511s til the day i die.

Topman is good for trousers imo Moodles. Lots of cuts and styles. something like this for instance - https://www.asos.com/topman/topman-tapered-trousers-in-stone-cord/prd/21896431?colourwayid=60307597&cid=30222

Tracer Hand, Wednesday, 12 May 2021 14:42 (two years ago) link

I would not ever front as a fashionable man but: I don't like jeans. I feel fine in chinos year-round, no matter the setting. Banana Republic or Gap or even (gasp) Land's End. No Dockers tho - I am a dad but I'm not THAT daddish.

cardio free europe (Ye Mad Puffin), Wednesday, 12 May 2021 14:44 (two years ago) link

ngl, part of my hesitancy with lighter colored pants is that I'm certain I'll end up getting spaghetti sauce on them or something similar

Mr. Cacciatore (Moodles), Wednesday, 12 May 2021 14:51 (two years ago) link

definitely a consideration

Tracer Hand, Wednesday, 12 May 2021 15:11 (two years ago) link

dark chinos are the way to go imo. i went on a testing spree the other year looking for non-low-rise, non-skinny cheap chinos and landed on everlane athletic cut and lands end "knockaround," tho those have a little stretch in the fabric that reduces longevity

adam, Wednesday, 12 May 2021 17:49 (two years ago) link

I wore some black Levis branded chinos a bunch this past winter, liked 'em.

"Designer" shirts which are 100% viscose. Can any living human wear viscose without actually wanting to die?
