Gonna say it: the Mookie trade busted me up like nothing else has, but this team has played really well and has been very fun to watch. I fully expect the wheels to come off the pitching and there is a lack of serious threat in the batting order that some timely hitting has obscured - for the moment - but they're playing tight right now. Playing hard. If Sale comes back and they're still playing this way I could see them winning a postseason series or two.

going into last night the Bosox led the majors in: BA, SLG, OPS (naturally), runs scored
― Li'l Brexit (Tracer Hand), Thursday, 29 April 2021 07:37 (two years ago) link
The bosox have yet to lose a game in which they’ve been leading by 2 runs or more.

Just looking again at Verdugo vs Mookie. Verdugo hitting .290, Mookie .252. Verdugo has 9 homers, Mookie 8. Verdugo’s scored 43 times, Mookie 42. Verdugo has 33 strikeouts - Mookie? 44. It’s walks where Mookie has the edge. He’s got 37, Verdugo only has 21.
― Tracer Hand, Sunday, 20 June 2021 20:01 (two years ago) link
Which says to me a couple of things. Mookie is having a down year so far. The other thing it says is that if Verdugo can hold back a little sometimes and take the walk he will be a really complete hitter.

Ottavino, 35, discovered Earthing last year while doing some research on the Internet. The 11-year veteran who has also played for the Cardinals, Rockies, and Yankees, does it before every game, home or on the road, in empty stadiums.

Tanner is what, today, an opener? Not great but not terrible either - 6 Ks in 4 innings, one run
― Tracer Hand, Sunday, 8 August 2021 00:34 (two years ago) link
good for tanner but also the yankees are now like seven games closer in two weeks
i mean i actually like the sox but if they cannot bury the yankees they need to fuckin get out of the way

BOS is 10-3 against NYY! it’s all the other teams they suddenly can’t seem to beat

i think i’m now officially considering boston “out of the way”
― Tracer Hand, Monday, 9 August 2021 15:03 (two years ago) link
just brutal. i stayed up last night through renfroe's homer. to that point they looked like a playoff baseball team. e-rod just brilliant. striking everybody out. great plays defensively. good at-bats. then - what had been their main strength in the first half of the season - the bullpen - just drove off the cliff and the bats went to sleep again.
really this is just returning to the mean. my dad said - i'm sure he got this from somewhere - they were never that good. but they're not this bad.
― Tracer Hand, Wednesday, 11 August 2021 09:01 (two years ago) link
i find it odd that they did nothing at the deadline to address 1B. it's not like they even had to go get rizzo, anyone half decent would do. surely c.j. cron could have been had for a few bags of balls
― mookieproof, Wednesday, 11 August 2021 19:52 (two years ago) link
i think marwin gonzalez and danny santana can both play first but they’re liabilities at the plate and yeah, for all the talk of schwarber “learning first” a guy with both a hamstring AND groin injury (??) isn’t who you want stretching out to dig out one-hoppers at first, i’d have thought

seriously. :( their last two starting pitchers are like 1-13 combined or something.
― Tracer Hand, Monday, 16 August 2021 06:00 (two years ago) link
i looked it up, 3-20.akin gave up three runs in 4 innings - which lowered his ERA.

two hits off andrew fucking heaney in seven innings

they’re not a bad team. they’re a pretty good team playing badly which is much worse.

TIL from WEEI tonight about Bobby Dalbec. His walk-up music is the Doors. his dad is an exec at Atlantic. he has an extensive guitar collection and used to hang out with Rob Thomas.
