There’s an epidemic of refs letting shooters get slapped on the wrist this season. Really obvious calls

Matt Armstrong, Sunday, 18 April 2021 15:24 (three years ago) link

made a nu thread fyi 2021 nba offseason draft free agency etc

lag∞n, Sunday, 18 April 2021 15:47 (three years ago) link

he was better than kyrie in the final 3 mins of that game basically how it went down

richard jefferson is very annoying on TV

J0rdan S., Sunday, 18 April 2021 21:58 (three years ago) link

yeah willfully obnoxious and lame isnt a good combo

lag∞n, Sunday, 18 April 2021 22:01 (three years ago) link

doesn't even try to provide analysis?

J0rdan S., Sunday, 18 April 2021 22:03 (three years ago) link

Dort going nuts again

Matt Armstrong, Sunday, 18 April 2021 23:50 (three years ago) link

Honestly when we see Dort shoot well it does remind me of Artest

Matt Armstrong, Sunday, 18 April 2021 23:59 (three years ago) link

TIL that Chris Boucher is shooting 38% from 3 this season

Matt Armstrong, Monday, 19 April 2021 00:49 (three years ago) link

kd having a hard time staying on the court

lag∞n, Monday, 19 April 2021 14:53 (three years ago) link

I understand treating him with kid gloves but it does seem like he gets banged up easily now

Matt Armstrong, Monday, 19 April 2021 15:38 (three years ago) link

richard jefferson is so annoying, nba equivalent of dan orlovsky who they also seem to be pushing for mostly being an annoying, combative twerp

Blues Guitar Solo Heatmap (Free Download) (upper mississippi sh@kedown), Monday, 19 April 2021 15:45 (three years ago) link

yeah if youre gonna stir things up you should at least be cool, funny, smart, a clown, or something like that not a guy who sounds like urkle

lag∞n, Monday, 19 April 2021 15:51 (three years ago) link

I think we clearly have a problem where only the most cringe nba players want to call games

Matt Armstrong, Monday, 19 April 2021 15:52 (three years ago) link

maybe players make so much money these days, even like jason terry got $100m over his career, that a post playing career has less appeal

lag∞n, Monday, 19 April 2021 16:04 (three years ago) link

and there are prob more team jobs than there used to be too if you want to stay around the game

lag∞n, Monday, 19 April 2021 16:05 (three years ago) link

then youre left with the guys who just really want to be on tv lol

lag∞n, Monday, 19 April 2021 16:05 (three years ago) link

local sports talk station does this bit where they try to guess total career earnings for retired NBA players, it's incredible how marginal players that hung around made like $80 million

jefferson has always been a dweeb.

in today's athletic

Fred VanVleet returned to the lineup in Friday’s win over Orlando, but he will not necessarily play on Sunday against the Thunder. It has become fair to wonder how much the league’s schedule, and determination to get through 72 games for all 30 teams while getting back on track for the league’s preferred October-to-April regular season for next season, has led to the injuries.

“I wouldn’t say (my passion has been) taken away, that’s probably a little bit too strong,” VanVleet said on Saturday. “But there’s certainly ups and downs to this thing more than I’ve ever experienced in my life. To be honest, this is probably the most unpure year of basketball I’ve ever been a part of, just from the whole league and rushing the season back.

“It’s pretty much all about business this year on every level and it’s hard to hide it, you know what I’m saying? The NBA is a great balance of like the pure love and joy of one of the best sports in the world mixed with a billion-dollar industry, and I think this year the industry side has taken precedence over some of the love and the joy.”

Unbeknownst to VanVleet, he was making the observations on the same day that the league fined the Raptors $25,000 for “failing to comply with league policies governing player rest and injury reporting.” This was probably a case of miscommunication more than anything.

I feel like if you poked around you could find nba role players who are good on mic. But the networks probably say “who the hell is that?” On the other hand, we have Ryan Hollins on our tvs for some reason

Matt Armstrong, Monday, 19 April 2021 17:23 (three years ago) link

grant hill and steve smith are pretty good doing games. grant hill is the rare case of a super famous player who made a shit ton of money but has a pretty low key non-blowhardy broadcasting style. just seems like a chill dude overall.

i don't mind d wade on TNT as far as newer guys go but studio is easier than doing a game. espn has had a pretty bad run of ex-players lately with dudes like perk and paul pierce... trying to put my finger on what might unite those two guys... hmm

I enjoyed Vince when he was on the Hawks' broadcast for a few games early this season

I could see Harrison Barnes as a good game announcer. He kind of has the Grant Hill vibe.

there were a few recent celtics games where sean grande the celtics usual radio guy did the tv play by play with scal (bad) doing the color and it wasnt good but maybe because grande was like this is my opportunity to not detail every movement of the ball he did very minimal play by play and they were kinda just talking in a low key manner for a bunch of it almost like a podcast, idk like i said it wasnt actually great but it made me think there are some different styles that could be explored

lag∞n, Monday, 19 April 2021 17:51 (three years ago) link

john crotty is really good on the heat local broadcast, huge upgrade over the lughead ex-coach they used to have on the games

J0rdan S., Monday, 19 April 2021 17:53 (three years ago) link

i like the ex coach on raptors broadcasts who sounds like hubie brown

yeah media ppl seem to all speak very highly of barnes. bosh has been good on TV, obv very intelligent guy. it seems like he has other interests outside of the game tho. wonder if LMA will get into broadcasting

J0rdan S., Monday, 19 April 2021 17:58 (three years ago) link

Jack Armstrong's grown on me, I used to hate him. He's chilled on the homerism since the Raptors won a title

When sean Grande did twolves games he had my favorite nba announcer joke of all time. George McCloud was fouled going to the basket and a guy fell on him and with perfect timing Grande said “hey you, get off of McCloud!”
