that's not my post, Thursday, 15 April 2021 15:14 (three years ago) link

one of the only bands capable of making an actually worthwhile version of this song in 2021

i revisit this set time and time again... immaculate soundboard recording. the spiritualized cover, the "you can't use words like that, saint louise is listening" at the beginning of 'lazy'...

maelin, Thursday, 15 April 2021 19:41 (three years ago) link

wow that set is great! dunno why i never thought to seek out live low before

nobody like my rap (One Eye Open), Thursday, 15 April 2021 20:38 (three years ago) link

I know why I haven't, and that's probably because anything I find would be so awesome that is all I would listen to.

Josh in Chicago, Thursday, 15 April 2021 20:39 (three years ago) link

yeah there's a bunch of really good and really different sets floating around

"don't walk away" (from that earlier live video) is quite nice, can't wait to hear what mutant form these songs take

intern at pepe le pew research (Simon H.), Thursday, 15 April 2021 20:43 (three years ago) link

can someone post the site that archived all the Friday I'm in Lows they've been doing over the past year? i thought I'd bookmarked it but no.

I am listening to the version of "Coattails" from the set that maelin posted, it might be one of my favorite Low songs, and of course it's just unspeakably beautiful.

It's too bad all that $$$$ they spent on Rogan meant they can't afford to hire people to clean up data errors like this.

second half that's all ambient synth noodling is sublime

ufo, Tuesday, 22 June 2021 02:12 (two years ago) link

Is anybody else getting "this video is unavailable" for the Days Like These link?

yeah but how, Tuesday, 22 June 2021 02:32 (two years ago) link

probably a regional thing, i'm in australia

will be available in the rest of the world tomorrow

ufo, Tuesday, 22 June 2021 02:32 (two years ago) link

the more i listen to it the more i love it!

ufo, Tuesday, 22 June 2021 04:19 (two years ago) link

they really did play most/all of the album during the It's Friday I'm In Low sessions over the last year, looking at the titles - stoked to hear what the studio versions are going to be like.

(Don't Archive have a track called "Again" that ends with a long section where that was the only word that kept being repeated? Haven't heard it in a while, could be wrong)

StanM, Tuesday, 22 June 2021 05:05 (two years ago) link

Yeah I really like the second half - pushes them further in the ambient electronic direction, but lighter than the ambient moments on Double Negative. first half is a very different song, it's alright

Vinnie, Tuesday, 22 June 2021 05:07 (two years ago) link

i like how they're kinda doing a quiet/loud thing with their immense digital distortion now

ufo, Tuesday, 22 June 2021 05:12 (two years ago) link

i imagine the studio versions will be pretty different if "days like these" is any indication bc they're not even doing the double negative tour levels of walls of distortion in those streamed performances, let alone what they've managed in the studio

ufo, Tuesday, 22 June 2021 05:21 (two years ago) link

looking through tracklists for the friday i'm in low performances and they've at least played eight tracks from the album, and another five new ones that aren't on it (or were renamed etc.)

ufo, Tuesday, 22 June 2021 05:23 (two years ago) link

ufo, Tuesday, 22 June 2021 11:36 (two years ago) link

& apparently steve is no longer in the band, sounds like this record is just them as a duo?

ufo, Tuesday, 22 June 2021 11:37 (two years ago) link

according to alan, steve left before they made this album because he had "very understandable personal reasons" that meant he would no longer be able to tour

ufo, Tuesday, 22 June 2021 11:56 (two years ago) link

this track is awesome, and yes it's all about the multi stage ambient second half

intern at pelican brief consulting (Simon H.), Tuesday, 22 June 2021 12:34 (two years ago) link

I love "Days Like These," and I extra love that I totally hear how it could have been a left-field "hit" if they got rid of the distortion and gave it a peppy drum beat, but no, this is Low.

Josh in Chicago, Tuesday, 22 June 2021 12:49 (two years ago) link

They are becoming quite fond of big choruses/hooks of late (see also "disarray")

intern at pelican brief consulting (Simon H.), Tuesday, 22 June 2021 13:21 (two years ago) link

is Cyrus officially the new bassist?

StanM, Tuesday, 22 June 2021 13:53 (two years ago) link

they don't seem to have announced an official new bassist yet, don't know if it's going to be cyrus or someone else

ufo, Tuesday, 22 June 2021 14:11 (two years ago) link

re: new bassist

"Sparhawk and Parker may work with other musicians in the future, according to a band representative."

ufo, Tuesday, 22 June 2021 15:01 (two years ago) link

not nearly as face-meltingly stunning as the double negative reveal but still really great. love that guitar tone obvs
