Will that guy on Jeopardy ever lose?

he's not in the lineup to the best of my knowledge, there was just a public petition

Currently scheduled upcoming guest hosts are:

Anderson Cooper, 4/19 - 4/30
Bill Whitaker, 5/3 - 5/14
Mayim Bialik, 5/31 - 6/11

Savannah Guthrie and Dr. Sanjay Gupta are also on the list, but no dates yet.

I already hated Dr. Oz going in, so I expected to be, at best, extremely annoyed by him, but he somehow managed to be even more awful than I could have ever imagined.

I'm okay with Anderson and Mayim, at least in theory.

Whitaker seems like a good choice. Maybe too serious?

During his time at CBS, Whitaker has covered many large events or disasters. Some include the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear disaster, the 2010 Haiti earthquake, and the War in Afghanistan (more specifically in Kabul). He also has covered many race-related issues such as policing in cities such as Cleveland, Chicago, and Tulsa. In Tulsa, Whitaker had a notable first interview with Betty Jo Shelby, the former police officer accused of shooting and killing Terence Crutcher, an unarmed black man.[1]

Have they announced that they're doing this for a full year or something? The prolonging seems kind of weird to me at this point, like how desirable a gig is this really? (though I'm sure some of these people aren't genuinely auditioning, just doing a stretch for fun/the chance to seem smart)

It's very desirable!

But I'm sure a huge part of the rotation is to leave a large, respectful gap between Trebek and a permanent successor (plus to sustain interest / avoid putting people off with one new host), more than it is an actual strategy of auditioning.

Can't disagree with "the obvious frontrunner," but I've been enjoying Mayim Bialik just as much. Dr. Oz sucks, obviously, but I'm not sure why so many are so down on Katie Couric.

Buzzy did better than some people that get paid some serious cheddar to talk on TV. I think Mayim Bialik might be the best one so far. Aaron Rodgers was better than expected and there was some humor, but I'd put him being Mayim, Buzzy and Ken Jennings. Bill Whitaker was fine, but really low key.

hated buzzy as a contestant, his smugness seemed really in your face, but thought he was a warm and charming host. did not expect it! I can't handle mayim's politics, unfortunately, as she's been great as a host.

otm. i also thought he was way more prepared than anyone else and the only one, for my money, who came close to transcending the "guest" part of the role and making me believe he was actually hosting the show.

mayim has been fun (though not nearly as fun as her bubbly, super-talkative two-time champ julia, my favorite contestant of 2021), but she seems like she's trying too hard to play it as a role. she's the only jeopardy host i've ever seen do a callback to contestant 1 while doing an interview with contestant 2, and i like that aspect of her. she knows how to talk to people!

i thought the football player was perfectly ok, andy cooper same, i think ken jennings would be a great guest host going forward for whenever whoever gets the job is on vacation, i thought katie was a little awkward and i thought bill whitaker was a lot awkward and never found his footing. i don't think dr. oz ever needs to be mentioned again, in any context.

mayim bialik has been good but its hard for me to get over the weird dissembling antivax stuff from her past. if it wasnt for that she'd probably be my #3 after jennings & rodgers

Buzzy hosted the Tournament Of Champions, not as a maybe-contender for the real job. Agree that Mayim is good at the job, and that Ken should remain a regular fill-in if someone else gets it (I may have said that upthread), and still looking forward to Levar.

iirc ken is presently some consultant or something & i read a quote @ least attributed to him of “there will be a permanent host in the fall” which i took to mean it wont be him

he came on as a consulting producer in September; they've stopped doing his own micro-segments since Alex died tho.

based on what I've seen, Jennings should mellow into the role over the next few years and be able to keep the ship afloat.

Lavar needs a lot of seasoning but his voice and presence are great. i wouldn't be mad.

i've only watched the first lavar episode so far but it bugs me that he seems to be trying to give a dramatic reading to every clue, like he's at a table read.
