lol i was just searching for the explanation of why to take suggs over cade, which is tbf a much more defensible position than barrett over zion

^ Seems like a big zing now, but even though everyone knew Zion was a shoo-in for first pick, but Barrett went pretty damned high, too, and that was well within the consensus about Barrett's NBA potential.

cade is gonna be the top pick bcuz he's a wing. i think suggs has a higher floor tho, there just aren't many guards who have his skillset. at the absolute worst he'd at least be avery bradley with better shooting if his offense just doesn't develop at all. cade will need his athleticism to show up more and i think there's some questions about how well he'll be able to score inside the arc, he's a very good shooter tho

i don't think it's true that cade doesn't care. i think the implication is that cade sometimes floats thru games, but it's more noticeable w/ him bcuz he isn't playing w/ anyone nearly as good as him. it's not really comparable to suggs who plays w/ a first team all american (kispert) and and a second team (timmie) and can have stretches of games where he has little impact but his team still kicks ass. i find it hard to watch cade put up 40 on the road vs OSU's rival ranked in the top 10 including taking like every shot in the final minute and blocking a shot and say he doesn't care

one of the things about college basketball culture is demonstrativeness and passion 4 tha game are completely conflated, when really a steady determined disposition like cades is prob more suited for nba success, tho obvs all sorts of personalities can work

i dont think cade over suggs is any sort of "slam dunk" but cade just is a prototypical 2021 nba player, and hes really good, suggs is also very well cut out for the nba but doesnt quite have the positional flexibility everyone is looking for, hes a guard where cades a wing, however suggs could easily turn out to be the better player, or someone else, one of the g-league ignite© guys i mean

seems like a good year for tanking, rly wish the spurs had committed to the tank sooner, tho they are off to a great run of Ls lately

great year to tank for sure, kinda funny the nbas anti tanking measures actually make it more profitable for teams who arent the absolute pits to tank, and if you are the pits might as well tank anyway right

also, i didn't say Cade doesn't care, i said he looks like he doesn't care. which isn't fair; i don't know how much he cares. maybe instead i should've said i'd rather have an athletic, high-motor 6'4" guy who can play either guard position (i'm not worried about his jumper) than Cade. Cade's obviously very good and i could be way wrong.

admittedly, i am also a college basketball guy more than an NBA guy, and prob shouldn't be speculating about draft picks. i just like Suggs better as a player.

there’s a number of teams who are “tired of losing” and are super excited to make the playoffs this year despite having a zero percent chance of making it to the second round — hornets, knicks, bulls — and are passing up the best tanking opportunity in years

ben simmons didn’t care at LSU and then got into the NBA and really cared, it can be a hard thing to judge when a guy is playing on a college team where he has to do 100% of the work for the team to be good

caring is a hard thing to judge, you certainly dont get to be one of the best 19 year old player in the world without caring, but will you have the superhuman level 24 year old caring required to be a great nba player, its very tough to judge, prob the thing that most makes the draft such a wildly chaotic science

the one exception is very tall guys can get pretty far without caring that much, tho very tall guys are pretty of out of style now, kind of funny the two best very tall guys in the nba both have seemingly non caring dispositions

the degree of difficulty in that cade highlight video was insane, actually really good defense by #24 on OU for the majority of those looks

the thing that really sold me on cade is his playmaking its not the most important thing for a 19 year old wing to be able to run the pick and roll but the fact that he can makes it obvious that hes a baller not just some long arm freak

my understanding is that cade is a tall PG a la lamelo and less a wing

zags have a higher true talent level, with a starting five that'll all be drafted, but baylor is a truly relentless team on both ends. could definitely see them giving the zags similar problems that ucla did.

no real rooting interest (tho the overall grossness of baylor as an institution makes me favor gonzaga a little), im just hopin for good hoops

seems clear gonzaga just doesn’t have the athletes outside of suggs. timmie can’t play defense vs this team. i think gonzaga can still win tho if baylor goes cold from three... they might be the better team but are also shooting unsustainably

agree Timme is a defensive problem for the Zags. and that if they're gonna come back, it's gonna have to be centered around Suggs (and free throws)

this game isn’t making a great case for corey kispert’s NBA future. an NBA team could prob get him some more open threes but he’s getting totally washed out by baylor’s athleticism
