big fat ugly raised steel wired armoured cables on wooden poles rather than sunk (and with a scruffy loop left hanging there) suggests nobody loves this place!

Matazlan?

Scampo di tutti i Scampi (ShariVari), Tuesday, 30 March 2021 10:23 (three years ago) link

Or Mazatlan, even.

Scampo di tutti i Scampi (ShariVari), Tuesday, 30 March 2021 10:24 (three years ago) link

Definitely feeling Mexico for this (but also feeling Brazil hmm)

cherry blossom, Tuesday, 30 March 2021 10:33 (three years ago) link

Not Mazatlan

or something, Tuesday, 30 March 2021 10:54 (three years ago) link

Block of flats is confusing me. Looks sort of eastern European but on the other hand green shutters feels Latin

Zelda Zonk, Tuesday, 30 March 2021 11:02 (three years ago) link

What do we think the smelting looking building with the chimneys is on the left? Behind the little building that might be a street church

cherry blossom, Tuesday, 30 March 2021 11:07 (three years ago) link

perhaps they don't bury cables or build too high because it is in a seismic zone that frequently has earthquakes? god knows somewhere in Chile?

calzino, Tuesday, 30 March 2021 11:08 (three years ago) link

There seem to be mountains in the background too, though I have no purchase in this game right now, just mentioning it.

it's like edging for your mind (the table is the table), Tuesday, 30 March 2021 15:17 (three years ago) link

the unburied cables basically rules out western europe.

there might be an earthquake connection but generally speaking buried cables are a wealth thing even in earthquake zones. you can see the rich neighborhoods of LA from space becuase if you can see tree cover then you're looking at a neighborhood that could afford to bury. https://www.latimes.com/archives/la-xpm-2003-feb-09-re-pole9-story.html

Japan?

StanM, Tuesday, 30 March 2021 17:20 (three years ago) link

Japan isn't a city

or something, Tuesday, 30 March 2021 17:31 (three years ago) link

(But no, not Japan. I'll give you that one)

or something, Tuesday, 30 March 2021 17:32 (three years ago) link

San Felipe ?

calzino, Tuesday, 30 March 2021 19:00 (three years ago) link

the Chile one I mean

calzino, Tuesday, 30 March 2021 19:06 (three years ago) link

Nope. Is it too early for another pic?

or something, Tuesday, 30 March 2021 19:39 (three years ago) link

I've exhausted my options. There's 3 or 4 I like for it but not enough to put forward

Neither

or something, Tuesday, 30 March 2021 21:05 (three years ago) link

my last guess is Chillán.

calzino, Tuesday, 30 March 2021 21:14 (three years ago) link

I’m still unreasonably tied to the idea this might be northern Mexico so will say Hermosillo.

Scampo di tutti i Scampi (ShariVari), Tuesday, 30 March 2021 21:24 (three years ago) link

ive gone off the idea of it being chile now. but definitely pacific and in latin america (nice and broad)

《Myst1kOblivi0n》 (jim in vancouver), Tuesday, 30 March 2021 21:31 (three years ago) link

Not Chillán or Hermosillo

or something, Tuesday, 30 March 2021 22:10 (three years ago) link

it looks like mexico to me too

John Cooper of Christian rock band Skillet (map), Tuesday, 30 March 2021 22:11 (three years ago) link

the mixture of small cars (especially VWs) and a pickup truck certainly feels like mexico or s.america to me

𝔠𝔞𝔢𝔨 (caek), Tuesday, 30 March 2021 22:12 (three years ago) link

wherever it is, it's on the drier side.

John Cooper of Christian rock band Skillet (map), Tuesday, 30 March 2021 22:15 (three years ago) link

juarez?

𝔠𝔞𝔢𝔨 (caek), Tuesday, 30 March 2021 22:19 (three years ago) link

Mexicali?

John Cooper of Christian rock band Skillet (map), Tuesday, 30 March 2021 22:31 (three years ago) link

I thought Mexicali, but it doesn't look dry enough to me.

o. nate, Tuesday, 30 March 2021 22:42 (three years ago) link

Not Juarez, not Mexicali

or something, Tuesday, 30 March 2021 22:45 (three years ago) link

One thing I've learned is that Mexico has a very large number of small to medium-sized cities that are extensively mapped on Google Streetview. This may or may not be relevant to the picture in question.

o. nate, Wednesday, 31 March 2021 01:40 (three years ago) link

Was thinking somewhere in Montenegro but can't find anything from maps.

I’m leaning more towards Brazil again. The blue line is puzzling.

Scampo di tutti i Scampi (ShariVari), Wednesday, 31 March 2021 11:01 (three years ago) link

The blue line is just the streetview route

or something, Wednesday, 31 March 2021 11:06 (three years ago) link

Aha!

Scampo di tutti i Scampi (ShariVari), Wednesday, 31 March 2021 11:07 (three years ago) link

Is that ocean on the left of this view?

I like Brazil for all three images but not if thats the ocean

cherry blossom, Wednesday, 31 March 2021 12:02 (three years ago) link

I'm away to look up coca-cola franchises in the entirety of Latin and South America, I'll have your answer in a week.

Duncan Disorderly (Tom D.), Wednesday, 31 March 2021 12:14 (three years ago) link

It's not the ocean

or something, Wednesday, 31 March 2021 12:15 (three years ago) link

probably more fruitful to try to identify that blue and white bus (not that I’ve had any luck with it so far)
