So is Christensen gonna be running around sans mask and Scarred Eggplant Man makeup through most of this or will he be wearing full Vader gear? Which, if it’s Full Vader, means *anyone* could’ve played The Dark Lord. The mind boggles. Also, looking forward to more blue milk gags.

Yeah - cool to see the "ROTS" Owen x Beru team back

xpost I assume it'll be like the scene in Empire where we briefly saw the back of Vader's helmet-free noggin only this time we'll briefly get to see the front, as well.

I suspect Kenobi will be seeing a lot of Anakin's screwed up face in his dreams or some fucked up Force projection (as per Luke in TLJ). Hard to see how any direct confrontation with the real DV could be good in this.

nashwan, Monday, 29 March 2021 21:49 (three years ago) link

Yeah - as someone in that Twitter thread commented, it feels like it would be weird for Obi-Wan to encounter Vader before ANH. Has that happened in the comics or anything?

beer drops on my keytar (morrisp), Monday, 29 March 2021 21:51 (three years ago) link

Recently got through most of The Clone Wars over the last few months and ended up really enjoying those smart, tense final four episodes from the last season and how it links with events in ROTS.

psyched to see Benny Safdie play Anakin's long lost mentally disabled brother

After her turn in The Vow as the one of that whole bunch who figured out it was crap near the start and got out, hey, bring her back!

I just wound up watching the various Star Wars animations over the last month or so. ON Clone Wars season 5, finished Rebels and Resistance.
I noticed there seemed to be a problem with the timeline between teh end of Rebels and Mandalorian assumed Rebels should be canon to Mandalorian. BUt something a little off. Won't say more cos may be too much spoiler.

Found Resistance quite amusing and liked the animation. So wouldn't mind more of it or more done by the team working on it.

Haven't finished Clone Wars and only realised that Season 7 was made several years after the bulk of it recently. have only watched the first 2 episodes of that so far. Assumed since there was a gap it wouldn't be too much of a spoiler to the last few seasons of the earlier stuff.

Stevolende, Tuesday, 30 March 2021 09:12 (three years ago) link

S6 and S7 of Clone Wars are definitely worthwhile - especially the last one - mostly dedicated to trying the series into the timeline of Revenge of the Sith. There are some plot threads from S6 that pay off in S7, so I don't know if would just skip it. Those last two seasons are short, anyway.

Nhex, Tuesday, 30 March 2021 15:37 (three years ago) link

Well went back to S5 anyway

Stevolende, Tuesday, 30 March 2021 16:17 (three years ago) link

Anyway, the batch, it is bad.

looks like shit

intern at pepe le pew research (Simon H.), Tuesday, 30 March 2021 17:04 (three years ago) link

They pop up earlier in Clone Wars, is that the 1st 2 episodes of S7?
Obviously long hair is supposed to be a Rambo.
Did hope it had some merit, could have been something semi worthwhile but also could just be a toy tie in.
There have been gropups like this that have been interesting in terms of tensions etc but probably just going to be gung ho and very puerile.

Stevolende, Tuesday, 30 March 2021 17:19 (three years ago) link

Those are the same characters from the beginning of S7. Thought that arc was OK so I'm down for this. Plus, more Fennec!

Nhex, Tuesday, 30 March 2021 18:02 (three years ago) link

There is something about the style of animation of these Star Wars series that makes them unwatchable to me. I'm not sure what it is, too much in the video-game cutscene circa mid 00s style maybe. It's just ugly to me.

silverfish, Tuesday, 30 March 2021 19:37 (three years ago) link

The visual style of the Star Wars cartoons always reminds me of that movie Antz.

Dan I., Tuesday, 30 March 2021 19:59 (three years ago) link

I found the animation style on The Clone Wars to be a nigh-insurmountable barrier to entry for years. I'm glad I finally pushed through my aesthetic objections because it's the best filmed SW thing since The Empire Strikes Back imo. And the animation improves considerably as the show progresses.

You Can't Have the Woogie Without a Little Boogie (Old Lunch), Tuesday, 30 March 2021 20:15 (three years ago) link

I see there's another character from the Clone Wars Bad Batch story arc that is now part of the team.

Stevolende, Tuesday, 30 March 2021 20:29 (three years ago) link

Same for me, OL. In fact, watching this trailer now, I'm thinking it looks great visually, whereas five years ago I probably wouldn't have thought much of it! I'll watch this

First episode of The Bad Batch was actually pretty good

groovypanda, Friday, 7 May 2021 11:02 (two years ago) link

i guess technically they couldn't call it Clone Wars Season 8, given that the wars end in the first episode, but that's what it is

Nhex, Friday, 7 May 2021 12:38 (two years ago) link

Yeah both of the first two episodes were sharp, I thought. My hope is that we move from specific callbacks/return appearances more.

Guayaquil (eephus!), Wednesday, 12 May 2021 18:57 (two years ago) link

It's creative and well executed, but a lot of work for a "haha Star Wars nerds don't have girlfriends" joke that was stale 15 years ago.

i know i posted it in the star wars thread but this guy's delivery was what deserved memeification, the sci-fi context is almost purely incidental to the cringe

Draymond is "Mr Dumpy" (forksclovetofu), Wednesday, 12 May 2021 19:22 (two years ago) link

Okay I'll admit that I didn't even consider that the first one was earnest until now. I assumed the entire thing was a joke.

Guess I’m officially too old, I cannot parse the layers of meta-textuality or whatever is going on.

Okay I'll admit that I didn't even consider that the first one was earnest until now.

If the original video was a goof I retract my claim that it was mean but I assumed they were all making fun of an awkward guy in a "so not gonna happen" kind of way

Guayaquil (eephus!), Thursday, 13 May 2021 16:06 (two years ago) link

I have no idea! I'm just so skeptical of viral stuff that I assume everything is a bit. I didn't even think about the possibility that the original video was earnest.

So anyway who else has been watching Bad Batch regularly? While the feature-not-bug of the galaxy apparently consisting of twenty people that keep running into each other remains in full effect, the show’s set up some great visuals and set pieces and the easy chemistry of the Batch and Omega always charms. Last week’s episode and this week’s were both really sharp, all the sneaking around ruins and firing up old equipment like the cruiser engine.

Ned Raggett, Saturday, 26 June 2021 14:05 (two years ago) link

Yeah I’m enjoying it. Big credit to Dee Bradley Baker who’s basically voicing every single character.

Hey Bob (Scik Mouthy), Saturday, 26 June 2021 14:39 (two years ago) link

I (ahem) might be in the process of chronologically working my through the prequel-era novels and comics atm, so a rewatch of TCW followed by TBB is impending.

I like it more than I expected based on how I felt about them in the clone wars appearance, but I always like the filling in of details about timelines between films and what I know

With the bounty hunter connections and the bandages i was wondering if somehow crosshair ends up as dengar because while I realize the character most likely has a complete existing backstory I know nothing about it

joygoat, Saturday, 26 June 2021 18:16 (two years ago) link

Just caught up. Yup, Bad Batch is good stuff, happy to have it.

Nhex, Thursday, 1 July 2021 23:27 (two years ago) link

And one Bad Batch episode to go, with a second season already in the works. It's pretty generally clear what the final episode will involve, I'd guess -- last minute escape, off to new adventures, etc etc. -- but it's been a nice little resolving on what happened with Kamino exactly in classic 'hm, yeah, let's tie that up' fashion with the SW universe. Read a little guess or two that this could also tie in long term with some of the bio research stuff we saw in The Mandalorian, who knows? Anyway, good first season, look forward to the next.

Ned Raggett, Monday, 9 August 2021 15:46 (two years ago) link

So Bad Batch ended well enough and we'll see about next season. Enjoyed some of the big set pieces over the last couple of episodes, and the teaser/cliffhanger of sorts ending, I like it.

Meantime, next month
