North Country is a 2005 American drama film directed by Niki Caro, starring Charlize Theron, Frances McDormand, Sean Bean, Richard Jenkins, Michelle Monaghan, Jeremy Renner, Woody Harrelson, and Sissy Spacek. The screenplay by Michael Seitzman was inspired by the 2002 book Class Action: The Story of Lois Jenson and the Landmark Case That Changed Sexual Harassment Law by Clara Bingham and Laura Leedy Gansler, which chronicled the case of Jenson v. Eveleth Taconite Company.
...
While working a job washing hair, Josey reconnects with an old acquaintance, Glory Dodge, who works at the local iron mine and suggests Josey do the same, as a job there pays six times more than what Josey's making now. Josey's pursuit of and securing the job further strains her relationship with Hank, who also works at the mine and believes women shouldn't be working there, so she and her children move in with Glory and her husband, Kyle.

Josey quickly befriends several other female workers at the mine and soon realizes the women are constant targets for sexual harassment and humiliation by most of their male co-workers, who, like Hank, believe the women are taking jobs more appropriate for men.

So Burger Boogaloo is back, minus of course the late unlamented Burger Records, with a new name:

https://www.eventbrite.com/e/mosswood-meltdown-tickets-65083832495

Statement in the PR mail:

Total Trash Productions has shared the following statement:

While Total Trash Productions has always independently produced the festival and Burger Records only played a promotional role, we do not want to discount the problems of safety and inclusion that have plagued the music scene for far too long. Instead, we would like to be part of the solution.

We are committed to becoming a leader in event safety and are working to expand our policies beyond the accepted standards. Over the coming months, we will be publicly outlining new safety and awareness practices in addition to new festival guidelines. In the meantime, we are eager to hear from members of our community who have policies or best practices they would like to see us incorporate in our plans as we want to ensure that your voices are heard. Please email safety @ totaltrashproductions.com with your suggestions.

I think this was scheduled a while ago ... like, I saw the event come up in facebook feed and I had already checked "interested" ... I honestly don't remember when that was tbh.

I feel like they are decent people, actually, and don't want to give them shit ... there was an ongoing issue about homeless people being displaced by the festival, and the festival organizers weren't dicks about it.

xp Whiney -- I only live 5 minutes away from Mosswood Park ... so, I am clearly even more of an expert about this festival than I am about pop-punk lol

T.I. has used audio of one of the multiple women who have accused him of sexual assault, drugging, and imprisonment in his new single, naming her The Parasite in the video, and also bragging about how he did a year in jail for refusing to snitch, and now he's "up against some lying-ass bitches.”

not even a diss track, he (Ne-Yo) wrote the song to begin with. the “hour/shower” version is the original lyric, which was later clumsilybrilliantly adapted for Beyoncé in a jiffy.

how soon we forget: there is a 1761-post NE-YO vs THE-DREAM thread on ILM. granted, over time it became predominantly about The-Dream, but it was Ne-Yo who actually won the poll.
(Terius Nash would probably feature in this here thread tho, had it been started earlier)

(The music tech industry is rife with this. Depressingly shocked at how unsurprised I am that Moog is another one)

The misogyny at Moog

A civil rights lawsuit tells the story of workplace discrimination, verbal abuse, assault and rampant misogyny at a major Asheville company

Moog, the major synthesizer company, is one of Asheville’s most prominent businesses, considered a mainstay of the city’s economy (and marketing). In the public eye the “employee-owned” firm is known for progressive attitudes that seem to make it fit in with the popular image Asheville’s likes to project.

“To all the trailblazers, leaders, barrier breakers, artists, entrepreneurs, activists, family members, friends, colleagues, mentors, and all women who inspire us daily, thank you,” Moog’s official Twitter trumpeted last International Women’s Day.

This is the company Hannah Green thought she was joining in 2018 when she was hired as a sales assistant. She would come to see that image was far from the reality. According to a federal civil rights lawsuit filed by Green and her attorney, Sean Soboleski, instead of a wonderful career at a progressive company, she faced extensive misogyny, discrimination and even physical assault.

Now, she says her goal is “to make sure Moog Music never does this to anyone else ever again,” and the company’s facing a federal civil rights lawsuit seeking over $1 million.

In a now-deleted Instagram post, courtney love has accused trent reznor of systemic abuse of teenage girls.

Don't worry dads, the Dave Grohl part of the message is just about his money.

The chaos and fury over Kurt's death being directed at me, deflected by Dave, while he enriched and continues to enrich himself, gorging on Kurt's fortune and Kurt's goodwill. 27! Years!!! I've had enough.

this is kind of weird because honestly Grohl has done by far the most post-Nirvana of any of them, and --- as crazy as this is to someone of my age --- has younger fans that don't really think of Foo Fighters as connected to Nirvana

Blues Guitar Solo Heatmap (Free Download) (upper mississippi sh@kedown), Tuesday, 15 June 2021 14:51 (two years ago) link

Very serious accusation to make.

Also: Didn’t she praise Manson and kept defending him when all the allegations against him came out?

The same Manson that appears on the NIN starfuckers video that she’s complaining about, ironically.

“Back off or i’m going to show proof that you abused 12 year old girls that i’ve had for 30+ years…”

She is saying she has evidence of child abuse and is holding it as some sort of revenge tactic? Not sure how US laws work but if she actually has evidence against a child abuser and just confessed to saving it, isn’t it illegal to hold it and she’s somehow complicit?

✖✖✖ (Moka), Tuesday, 15 June 2021 15:17 (two years ago) link

Anyways, pretty bad if true and she should come forward if she does have evidence but who knows with Courtney.

✖✖✖ (Moka), Tuesday, 15 June 2021 15:25 (two years ago) link

Didn't Courtney make allegations about the debauchery on the Downward Spiral Tour at the time or shortly thereafter? Seem to recall it was regarding Manson and the road crew but wouldn't exactly be shocked if it involved Reznor as well

chr1sb3singer, Tuesday, 15 June 2021 17:11 (two years ago) link

Even if she actually saw what she says she saw, she does a disservice to the alleged victims by wielding their stories as weapons in an unrelated war she's waging on another super-rich rock star about money.

beard papa, Tuesday, 15 June 2021 18:05 (two years ago) link

apparently Grohl has his own label imprint called Roswell Records that has put out all the Foo Fighters stuff, assuming this was all negotiated during Nirvana's peak, I'm sure it's a way better deal than the original Nirvana contracts

pretty safe to assume he's made tons more money off Foo Fighters than Nirvana, esp considering they have toured arenas a ton

Blues Guitar Solo Heatmap (Free Download) (upper mississippi sh@kedown), Tuesday, 15 June 2021 19:40 (two years ago) link

...and his publishing deal's probably way better, and has more hits. IIRC, wasn't there some issue with how Nirvana's publishing royalties were divided?

― beard papa

Yeah that was sort of my point.

90% of her diatribe is against Grohl for money and then as a footnote “oh btw Trent is a child abuser”. Idk… you’d think child abuse comes first and the money dispute should be footnote.

But then, if she has been silent for 30+ years about it maybe she’s not that concerned about the alleged child abuse.

✖✖✖ (Moka), Tuesday, 15 June 2021 20:10 (two years ago) link

Assuming Chr1s's recollection is correct, she hasn't been silent for 30+ years?

Hole and Manson we’re support acts for that tour from Aug 1994–Feb 1995 so maybe not 30+ years but 27. Not that it makes it any better.
