yeah i once bought all these expensive bras and the shopgirl was like "never put a bra with underwire in the dryer!!!!"

haha, are u kidding me?

gucci gone bonkers (roxymuzak), Sunday, 12 July 2009 21:06 (fourteen years ago) link

i mean i do this all the time

gucci gone bonkers (roxymuzak), Sunday, 12 July 2009 21:06 (fourteen years ago) link

yeah, actually in the past two years or so i have been a lot better about that and only hand washing/hang drying.

tehresa, Sunday, 12 July 2009 21:07 (fourteen years ago) link

but then i feel like the detergent doesn't rinse out well.

tehresa, Sunday, 12 July 2009 21:07 (fourteen years ago) link

never stuffed ... I was the opposite ... I remember being temporarily traumatized when my mom dragged me to the department store to buy bras for the first time, but I was kinda a tomboy and was 8 or 9.

faucet that ass (sarahel), Sunday, 12 July 2009 21:09 (fourteen years ago) link

i never needed to stuff, lol

tehresa, Sunday, 12 July 2009 21:16 (fourteen years ago) link

me either lol and besides i wanted no boobs anyway

i was desperate to look like a guy until i was maybe 17. i used to bind myself with an ACE bandage

gucci gone bonkers (roxymuzak), Sunday, 12 July 2009 21:21 (fourteen years ago) link

I used to wear oversized shirts a lot ... but partly because that was the fashion - the big shirt, leggings/tight pants thing. I sucked at pegging pants. My current bf, I learned was a total pro at this.

faucet that ass (sarahel), Sunday, 12 July 2009 21:24 (fourteen years ago) link

sometimes i really miss t-shirt clips

tehresa, Sunday, 12 July 2009 21:24 (fourteen years ago) link

i was a little late for pegging pants, but my sister (nije) and brother did it

i wore big shirts and shorts and stuff but it was mostly for sports reasons, on my own time i did wear semi-raver pants, but that was because of.....i have no idea why i wore that. "i love the 90s"

gucci gone bonkers (roxymuzak), Sunday, 12 July 2009 21:26 (fourteen years ago) link

my friend is so nostalgic for the 90s. like she thinks the 90s were a good luck. i am so baffled by this. the 80s were aight. but the 90s were some mess of 80s leftovers + really horrible things.

tehresa, Sunday, 12 July 2009 21:27 (fourteen years ago) link

i look at my 90s self and shudder.
she is nostalgic for the calvin klein dresses and chunky loafers (not together, i hope). i get that... but i'm glad we've advanced somewhat.

tehresa, Sunday, 12 July 2009 21:28 (fourteen years ago) link

i dont know about a good look, but there were many LOL looks, more subtly lol than the 80s

and i love to lol

i love cK one btw, in fact i wore it today!

gucci gone bonkers (roxymuzak), Sunday, 12 July 2009 21:29 (fourteen years ago) link

I dunno - the 80s involved stirrup pants. Those things were horrible.

faucet that ass (sarahel), Sunday, 12 July 2009 21:30 (fourteen years ago) link

exactly, they are good to lol at but i wouldn't want them back.

tehresa, Sunday, 12 July 2009 21:30 (fourteen years ago) link

i used to LOVVVVE stirrup pants with stacked socks. oh yes.

tehresa, Sunday, 12 July 2009 21:31 (fourteen years ago) link

yes not more lol than the 80s, just more subtle about it is what i was saying

gucci gone bonkers (roxymuzak), Sunday, 12 July 2009 21:31 (fourteen years ago) link

xpost me too and now we are back to cluadia from the babbysitters clob

gucci gone bonkers (roxymuzak), Sunday, 12 July 2009 21:31 (fourteen years ago) link

yes!

tehresa, Sunday, 12 July 2009 21:32 (fourteen years ago) link

i used to LOVVVVE stirrup pants with stacked socks. oh yes.

I had a friend that would totally color-coordinate the stacked socks ... she'd wear a striped shirt, and the socks would be in the same alternating color pattern as the shirt. Definitely lol-worthy.

I remember getting bruises from those guess jeans with the side ankle zippers.

faucet that ass (sarahel), Sunday, 12 July 2009 21:34 (fourteen years ago) link

bruises?!

gucci gone bonkers (roxymuzak), Sunday, 12 July 2009 21:55 (fourteen years ago) link

i used to bind myself with an ACE bandage

wow

horseshoe, Sunday, 12 July 2009 22:02 (fourteen years ago) link

yeah, where the zipper cut into my skin. Maybe bruises isn't the best description.

faucet that ass (sarahel), Sunday, 12 July 2009 22:06 (fourteen years ago) link

Ohhhhh no, late '80s confession: I did the layered socks/stirrups thing but with certain variables like using different texture or thickness of the socks used in the layering. Ragstock in Minneapolis had tons of wool '60s ski pants which were $5 or $10 and we'd wear them with massive sweaters (or layers of sweaters) and some kind of black boots. Or I'd head the other way and wear that with a white teeshirt and electric blue/black smoking jacket.

These strange '90s styles of which you speak? Closest I got to them was children's teeshirts under spaghetti strap dresses, or a cycling shorts/floral teeshirt from Benetton combo circa '90. My grunge era outfit was red Massey Ferguson jacket, plaid trousers, white teeshirt, 13-hole Docs and plastic barrettes. Also from 1986-1993 my legs were not ever bare in a dress due to my discovery of Donna Karan black matte jersey tights, which are so bulletproof and long-lasting I still have five undamaged pairs.

Roxy TAB is my all-time favorite soda. It can be so hard to find but if I do, I buy it immediately. I <3 Tab. It is all my mom drank when I was a kid so maybe that's part of it but god do I love that cancer causing goodness.

Also, "open image in new tab" HA!

children's teeshirts under spaghetti strap dresses

i loved this look, even though it looked terrible on me. there was an ILS thread about 90s fashion.

horseshoe, Sunday, 12 July 2009 22:35 (fourteen years ago) link

i've never even had TAB; where can i find it?

horseshoe, Sunday, 12 July 2009 22:35 (fourteen years ago) link

x-post I loved that look too. Also, babydoll dresses in general.

ENBB, Sunday, 12 July 2009 22:36 (fourteen years ago) link

Mandee it's a crapshoot really. Luckily my local grocery store carries it but many do not.

horseshoe, Sunday, 12 July 2009 22:36 (fourteen years ago) link

YES!!!!!!! That might have been my favorite movie at the time of said dress wearing enough so that I'm pretty sure that's right before they encounter the two actors on the bridge where the one says "I'll be the cow"!

ENBB, Sunday, 12 July 2009 22:37 (fourteen years ago) link

yeah it is! also the next morning, she wears the spaghetti strap dress sans tshirt. both looks=a++++

horseshoe, Sunday, 12 July 2009 22:38 (fourteen years ago) link

it helps to look like julie delpy, i guess.

horseshoe, Sunday, 12 July 2009 22:38 (fourteen years ago) link

She has the right body for that kind of look. Oh god I used to think that guy making the cow horns was so funny.

ENBB, Sunday, 12 July 2009 22:40 (fourteen years ago) link

During that time I was liable to be dressed like a member of Elastica.

going vogue (suzy), Sunday, 12 July 2009 22:41 (fourteen years ago) link

a lot of early 90s for me was the baby doll dress or other vintage dress with combat boots.

thanks for the rec on the tights ... I rip the shit out of tights, and have pretty much only worn pants for the past x # years.

faucet that ass (sarahel), Sunday, 12 July 2009 22:42 (fourteen years ago) link

I don't think Donna Karan makes those tights any more, which is why I have pairs that are 20 years old o_0.

TABIO (expensive) and New Look (better and cheap) make the best bulletproof tights in 2009, TABIO in zillions of colours.

going vogue (suzy), Sunday, 12 July 2009 22:47 (fourteen years ago) link

so bulletproof and long-lasting I still have five undamaged pairs.

!!!

ENBB, I saw you mention TAB on another thread which is what inspired me to bring it up here.

gucci gone bonkers (roxymuzak), Sunday, 12 July 2009 22:56 (fourteen years ago) link

My mom drank it too!

gucci gone bonkers (roxymuzak), Sunday, 12 July 2009 22:56 (fourteen years ago) link

Best pair of tights I have (they are too fried to wear but too cool to toss) are some spandex Hokusai via Deee-Lite with black seams up the back, but actually they look stolen from Bjork.

Also in other Donna Karan news I still mourn that day in 1996 when they discontinued Chaos, last bottle I bought was in 2001, last I saw in a perfume rarities stand in Mpls for $150 a year later. BOO.

going vogue (suzy), Sunday, 12 July 2009 23:02 (fourteen years ago) link

I have never smelled it. What was it like?

gucci gone bonkers (roxymuzak), Sunday, 12 July 2009 23:05 (fourteen years ago) link

i thought Donna Karan rereleased Chaos recently, along with Black Cashmere, which is a favorite of mine.

horseshoe, Sunday, 12 July 2009 23:06 (fourteen years ago) link

children's teeshirts under spaghetti strap dresses, or a cycling shorts/floral teeshirt from Benetton combo circa '90
