lol there are quite a few "venice of the ..." in france, they hand the name out as soon as you have one canal

Ravensthorpe - The Venice of Dewsbury

calzino, Thursday, 18 March 2021 12:16 (three years ago) link

Birmingham does has more miles of canals than Venice though.

My local canal used to be a sickly yellow colour in the 70's. There was a company called LB Holliday Dyes alongside that did what they liked. I had an uncle who worked there and funnily enough his nickname was "Yellow Eddie"!

An ancient Greek playing keepy-uppy, is that a clue?

Duncan Disorderly (Tom D.), Thursday, 18 March 2021 13:27 (three years ago) link

Looks like a google streetview inside a football stadium. Probably a pretty big team to have a streetview but seems like they've spent literally dozens of pounds on interior design.

Sheffield?

a bit of a blue and red herring

calzino, Thursday, 18 March 2021 14:13 (three years ago) link

Not sure why Cardiff would have more than one trophy, tbh.

Perhaps the Haagen-Dasz freezer is a clue. Basel?

Scampo di tutti i Scampi (ShariVari), Thursday, 18 March 2021 14:30 (three years ago) link

they've only won the Welsh Cup 15 times tbf!

calzino, Thursday, 18 March 2021 14:33 (three years ago) link

I've stood outside that stadium

or something, Thursday, 18 March 2021 15:45 (three years ago) link

fwiw i clipped the image of the football team and searched it; google, who must be high, said without a shadow of a doubt it was a picture of Croatian footballer Mario Brkljača, who played for Hajduk Split (a decade ago, not a century!) who play in blue and red and white.

Thats definitely weird!

Was going to go with an exterior shot but the interior of that room was too good to pass up

One for the weekend

It has the feel of a few places I've been to in east asia, but want to note the cleanliness and the stickers on the stop sign, this does not tally at all. A stone bridge across a sizable river with single file traffic, a small red (electric?) city bus and modern non-high-rise tower blocks should be a unique combination.

Bastard Lakes (Camaraderie at Arms Length), Saturday, 20 March 2021 16:28 (three years ago) link

it looks like a designated tourist zone in a city which doesn't see many tourists

Bastard Lakes (Camaraderie at Arms Length), Saturday, 20 March 2021 16:29 (three years ago) link

also something very soviet about that concrete object in the foreground, might be misleading though.

Is that a Mobike?

pomenitul, Saturday, 20 March 2021 16:31 (three years ago) link

It looks like Chengdu but I can’t find the bridge.

searching on red volvo ev bus got me to this page which matched the exact model in the OP:

Zaragoza it is - though I wondered if someone would get there via the letter Z shown on the front of the bus

cherry blossom, Sunday, 21 March 2021 08:00 (three years ago) link

Not that I noticed the Z on the front either at first

Great work Albert R. Broccoli. My ideas were miles out on that one.

Looks a little dusty for murmansk

cherry blossom, Sunday, 21 March 2021 16:38 (three years ago) link

Ahmedabad? Probably a bit of a wildly wrong random guess here, but that is where google image search algorithm sent me and it looks a *bit* architecturally similar to a part of the business school there!

Correct! It’s the student dorm by Louis Kahn.
