i didn't really expect that to be representative of anything in the same way that i wasn't expecting the impressively bad noise EP she put out last year to be either

this rrrrrips

maura, Sunday, 14 March 2021 23:20 (three years ago) link

mellon collie and the infinite bradness (BradNelson), Sunday, 14 March 2021 23:25 (three years ago) link

as with most of i disagree this feels like it was born right out of my brain

mellon collie and the infinite bradness (BradNelson), Sunday, 14 March 2021 23:26 (three years ago) link

its really nice to have someone making heavy music calibrated to exactly what i want from it

ufo, Sunday, 14 March 2021 23:31 (three years ago) link

lol she lost the grammy to ice-t

G.A.G.S. (Gophers Against Getting Stuffed) (forksclovetofu), Sunday, 14 March 2021 23:46 (three years ago) link

but yeah the last album was very good and this is too! she's really upped her game a lot! i am amused that she is opting for a St Vincent look here.

G.A.G.S. (Gophers Against Getting Stuffed) (forksclovetofu), Sunday, 14 March 2021 23:48 (three years ago) link

Huh. I don't mind what I've heard from Poppy at all but this performance is kind of a sweet/sour-spot blend of "I'm enjoying this" and "This is calibrated to sound like the guitar is a mosquito tied down to a splinter and shoved into my ear."

Ned Raggett, Sunday, 14 March 2021 23:49 (three years ago) link

i despise poppy and have from the second i encountered her a few years ago. just had to register that i guess.

map ca. 1890 (map), Sunday, 14 March 2021 23:55 (three years ago) link

her early stuff was pretty terrible and the turnaround has really been something

ufo, Monday, 15 March 2021 00:01 (three years ago) link

"This is calibrated to sound like the guitar is a mosquito tied down to a splinter and shoved into my ear."

yeah it rules

lol she lost the grammy to ice-t

not mad about this tbh, the nu-body count records are a lot of fun

Was this thread the last known appearance of kornrulez6969?

beer drops on my keytar (morrisp), Monday, 15 March 2021 00:20 (three years ago) link

omg this new song is so great :D my prediction that 'i disagree' was a prototype of what was to come looks like being true

there's a slight j-metal/j-pop vibe to this which i am v enjoying

imago, Monday, 15 March 2021 01:51 (three years ago) link

yeah that was a clear influence on the last album too

holy shit

mellon collie and the infinite bradness (BradNelson), Wednesday, 9 June 2021 02:22 (two years ago) link

best ep ever made

mellon collie and the infinite bradness (BradNelson), Wednesday, 9 June 2021 02:24 (two years ago) link

oh hell yeah

"eat" is just the same version as that grammys performance it sounds like, still fantastic though

ufo, Wednesday, 9 June 2021 02:33 (two years ago) link

oh my god "say cheese"

ufo, Wednesday, 9 June 2021 02:35 (two years ago) link

i listened to it twice through all of these songs are fucking incredible

mellon collie and the infinite bradness (BradNelson), Wednesday, 9 June 2021 02:46 (two years ago) link

whole thing rules, she keeps getting better and better

ufo, Wednesday, 9 June 2021 02:47 (two years ago) link

she sounds even better now that she's shifted away from the high vocal affect she used to do

ufo, Wednesday, 9 June 2021 02:49 (two years ago) link

i will never stop listening to this

mellon collie and the infinite bradness (BradNelson), Wednesday, 9 June 2021 02:58 (two years ago) link

are you seeing her open for deftones on their upcoming tour

ufo, Wednesday, 9 June 2021 02:59 (two years ago) link

i had to sell my ticket bc it coincides with another vacation :(

mellon collie and the infinite bradness (BradNelson), Wednesday, 9 June 2021 03:00 (two years ago) link

curse you rescheduled dates

mellon collie and the infinite bradness (BradNelson), Wednesday, 9 June 2021 03:01 (two years ago) link

oh that's a shame! i just saw that she was opening for them and thought 'wow that seems like a dream brad combination'

i think i'm just going to keep this on loop all day, she really understands exactly what i want out of metal it's incredible

ufo, Wednesday, 9 June 2021 03:02 (two years ago) link

oh wow i didn't dream that this came out

mellon collie and the infinite bradness (BradNelson), Wednesday, 9 June 2021 12:50 (two years ago) link

she knew what we would like to eat for sure

ufo, Wednesday, 9 June 2021 12:51 (two years ago) link

Poppy's one of those contempo artists where everything's about streaming, so it's SO FUCKING HARD to work out how to buy her music, especially in FLAC.
I'd love the EPs on CD, but that ain't gonna happen (blessed that I got I Disagree on CD though!)

raven, Wednesday, 9 June 2021 13:35 (two years ago) link

Found it:
https://www.zdigital.com.au/artist/poppy/release/eat-nxt-soundtrack-16338186
This exercise is particularly difficult in Australia...

raven, Wednesday, 9 June 2021 13:39 (two years ago) link

i was just about to point you there, 7digital/zdigital etc. is about the only reliable place for FLACs or even mp3s apart from bandcamp for artists who use it these days, now that google play music is dead

ufo, Wednesday, 9 June 2021 13:41 (two years ago) link

Yeah, thanks @ufo. Glad I remembered! It is where I usually end up.

raven, Wednesday, 9 June 2021 13:43 (two years ago) link

Oh, yes, this EP. She's Charli XCXI. I was going to say Charli XXX, but that's obviously Ayesha Erotic.

glenn mcdonald, Wednesday, 9 June 2021 20:43 (two years ago) link

"say cheese" song of the year at this point

ufo, Friday, 18 June 2021 06:28 (two years ago) link

This EP is really the best? I didn't really get her earlier stuff because they all sounded like two or three unrelated songs mashed together, but this is brilliant from start to finish.

braised cod, Saturday, 26 June 2021 20:55 (two years ago) link

the only previous track that i'd say really felt like a bunch of different songs mashed together was "concrete" but it did so in a really fun way that worked

ufo, Saturday, 26 June 2021 23:11 (two years ago) link

poppy goes belly.... incredible

STOCK FIST-PUMPER BRAD (BradNelson), Wednesday, 30 June 2021 16:52 (two years ago) link

Am I reading too much into lyrics or is "Her" a fuck-you/goodbye ode to Titanic Sinclair?

Sucks it's kind of bland, especially against the backdrop of that EP

octobeard, Wednesday, 30 June 2021 17:02 (two years ago) link

"Produced by Justin Meldal-Johnsen" !!!

ufo, Wednesday, 30 June 2021 23:01 (two years ago) link

this is fine but nowhere near as exciting as the EP

have no objection to a JMJ-produced alt rock album on the way from her though?

ufo, Wednesday, 30 June 2021 23:04 (two years ago) link

Liking this better than the EP stuff but then again I'm more into 90's MTV alternative nostalgia than processed metal.

licorice oratorio (baaderonixx), Thursday, 1 July 2021 14:54 (two years ago) link

the EP heavily tapped into my love of the downward spiral

ufo, Thursday, 1 July 2021 14:55 (two years ago) link

three weeks pass...

from my understanding she has been recording or has recorded an album with justin meldal-johnsen and it will largely sound like "her"
