best out of the current-ish crop of post-punk bands people and algorithms keep telling you to listen to

Surprised Crack Cloud aren't on here, tbh (a band I do not dislike but find it a bit bewildering how loved they are as everything is so smooooooth and perfectly rendered).

Lol CC really is about as cool as a band can get suffering from a potentially debilitating Gorillaz influence

Most of these are bands I was really excited about when I first read about them but none of them really did it for me, with the exception of Protomartyr, so I'm voting for them (I might have voted for Shopping had they been included).

i think this is protomartyr vs. girl band for me and picking one between those two is v v difficult

i voted for protomartyr. i appreciate that they found their sound right away and have stuck with it with only minor modifications (eg the subtle extra instrumentation on the newest album). iceage and tropical fuck storm would be my backups.
i also want to say i appreciate that this poll mostly stayed away from the "post-punk = sounds exactly like joy division" trend.

yeah the vox here are not just spoken, they're sort of...maybe not outright indifferent, but drained of any sort of animation. I get that that's what they're going for and it kinda works on a couple songs but I find it wearisome over a whole LP.

I double-checked to make sure, and yep: the quotidian consumer junk dancing in montage to "Magic of Meghan" still enchants. (This is, mind you, a two-days-old discovery for me.)

something i would not have anticipated ten years ago is parquet courts becoming one of the most influential bands; every local scene has like 3-5 bands who sound just like them

I'm surprised Cabbage haven't been mentioned. Feel like they were on the verge of breaking through a couple of years ago. They weren't great.

I haven't heard every band on the list, but a lot of them don't do anything for me. Idles and the accompanying hype in particular I find very tiresome. A lot of these bands I just find myself wishing I was listening to Art Brut instead. They had the tunes and a cleverness that I just don't get from most of these acts. If Art Brut were just starting out now I probably wouldn't have much interest in them, but at the time they sounded fresh and it was easy to connect with them.

I loved that last Porridge Radio album and the new Goat Girl is one of the best albums of the year so far. I would have voted for one of them if I'd seen the poll in time. I'm still working out the Dry Cleaning album. Florence's vocals and lyrics sell it well, although I do sometimes wish the music was a little more compelling. Half way through I find myself losing interest a bit even though I do like the guitar sounds they use. There's definitely something there though. I've always wanted another band who come close to what Life Without Buildings did and at times I can hear some of that in Dry Cleaning.

Ha, I just listened to a Yard Act song. I get what you mean. There's another band called Sports Team who do a similar thing. They almost had a number one album last year! I didn't realise just how many of these bands there were now.

Ha, didn't see this poll previously, but Tropical Fuck Storm are totally a band that was recommended to me by a spotify algorithm and that I thought "Hey, these guys are pretty good!"

That's because unlike most of the bands here, they do their own thing and don't sound like Ought

Metz is a weird inclusion here? post-grungey band on subpop and their debut was 9 years ago...
I guess Ice Age fit the sound somewhat too, but again their debut was a decade ago.

one local band I always thought was brilliant and never got its due was Brute Heart, but they were more i guess post punk in the slits/young marble giants way...but also very original they had their own sound, loved this band so much
