That's deeply unfair to 'results 1 of 1,000 for gaydiohead' imo.

i remember when "ether" came out and people were going nuts over it and i kept finding myself saying things like, "you guys do know that he's supposed to be responding to 'takeover', right? one of the most vicious and effective diss records of all time? you guys know that one, right?"

because anybody who did also knows that "ether" was weak across the board.

The 'shock g discovered tupac' references in the last couple of weeks reminded me how much I despise tupac and think there's absolutely nothing of any value in his entire oeuvre other than 'California Love' (which I love for some reason).

Hes overrated for sure. But two of his greatest songs, definition of a thug, and pour a little liquor, I'll take over pretty much everything else.

"metal" is fucking garbage and the people who play it deserve to be laughed at maliciously and relentlessly.

Assuming "rockism" has something to do with classic-era rock critic orthodoxy, few things are more rockist than hating metal. It's not a reversal of anything.

Do metal fans ever feel that there is too much metal, too many bands? It seems to an outsider like me that the genre is over-saturated even in 21st century terms (cheaper recording, digital distribution etc.).

just posted in here because i was driving yesterday listening to james brown (semi-loud with windows down) and after pulling up next to me, this guy kept driving right alongside me at the same speed blasting some stupid metal. like yeah, okay you don't like james brown or you think your music is better or whatever. leave me out of it.

Here's a controversial music opinion: labeling any genre as "fucking garbage" is as prejudiced as saying any cultural or ethnic group is "fucking garbage". There's garbage in every genre, yet none of them deserve that label.

While it might be correct on some level to call it prejudiced, I would defend use of hyperbole to vent strong opinions on a music forum without fear of it being compared to ethnic slurs. I would even go further and defend dismissing certain cultures as "fucking garbage" without that being compared to doing the same for an ethnic group. Difference in my mind being that a culture is something a person chooses to be a part of.

xposts Although he was the musical inspiration for that time my brother came to town and we spent the whole weekend inventing songs for my imaginary Newman Sings Newman album (where every tune is from the perspective of Jerry Seinfeld's nemesis). Pretty sure we nearly made a friend of mine pee his pants. Good times.

Except there's a strong history of those genres that are commonly targeted and specifically dismissed wholesale as being ones started by and intended for historically marginalized groups - disco, rap, jazz being three prime contenders. It's pretty hard to extract that history when someone dismisses the entirety of a genre as "fucking garbage".
