This thread reminds me of when my oldest kid was in elementary school. For some reason, the trend that year was to say "butter" as a soft swear instead of actually swearing - including milder ones like damn, hell, and crap. I think that for the most part, the kids were just saying "Aw, butter" like when you say "aw, damn" in disappointment.
We have always been a swearing household, so when my kid came home with this info, we all sat around brainstorming funny ways to insert butter into cuss phrases. "Butter you!" "Eat butter!" "Son of a butter" etc. etc. We went back and forth for a bit, then I landed on one that I thought was so great - I was gonna insert "butter" into the mf'er-word. What I probably intended to say was "motherbutter", but due to the "uh" sound in both halves of the word, I got mixed up and what came out of my mouth was "butterfucker." And that's when my wife decided that we had to stop playing the game.
