The horror movie poll got like 60 ballots. Half that shouldn’t be too tough

60 ballots in three weeks, vs three months so far here. Deadines focus the mind.

The idea is however you take the phrase “all-time movies”

avatar of a kind of respectability homosexual culture (Eric H.), Thursday, 4 March 2021 00:04 (three years ago) link

Time Bandits, Modern Times, Good Time, Ashes of Time, Bad Timing, Short Time...

;)

will def be sending a ballot. have a loose draft of about 150, that i will narrow down as late as possible

devvvine, Thursday, 4 March 2021 13:25 (three years ago) link

I started putting a ballot together a while back and let it get away from me. Bummed that, since the nominations closed, I've already seen one non-nominated film that should absolutely be on my ballot but I also wonder if there's any point in including it given the lack of nomination. I might need to pow-wow with my youth pastor on this one.

Stefan Twerkelle (Old Lunch), Thursday, 4 March 2021 13:39 (three years ago) link

just did a haphazard sweep of the noms and got a half-decent top 25 put together, so i guess i'm gonna vote

little johnny juul (voodoo chili), Thursday, 4 March 2021 15:22 (three years ago) link

Can I do a write-in? if so, then I can come up with a 25

Oor Neechy, Thursday, 4 March 2021 16:52 (three years ago) link

if you read the above posts they will reveal that write-ins are extremely allowed and nigh-encouraged

mellon collie and the infinite bradness (BradNelson), Thursday, 4 March 2021 16:55 (three years ago) link

I've sent in a ballot. If Eric could let me know he received it, that would be great!

Oor Neechy, Thursday, 4 March 2021 20:11 (three years ago) link

probably futile and ridiculous to do any campaigning for such a massive and personal endeavor but i would like to encourage folks to see/revisit Peter Weir's Fearless (1993). not at the top of my list or anything but it'll be on there somewhere. a movie close to my heart and one i never hear anyone talk about ever.

Lavator Shemmelpennick, Thursday, 4 March 2021 20:58 (three years ago) link

It's very good, iirc. It's been a while.

Stefan Twerkelle (Old Lunch), Thursday, 4 March 2021 21:02 (three years ago) link

I did a Facebook countdown of favourite movies with two friends a decade ago, and--I checked back--one of them had Fearless at #12.

clemenza, Thursday, 4 March 2021 21:03 (three years ago) link

very cool, glad to hear i'm not the only one! one of the things i like about it is that it feels like an incredibly rare example of extreme vulnerable emotion in the context of relatively slick Hollywood production values. Jeff Bridges and Rosie Perez are both excellent, among each of their best.

Lavator Shemmelpennick, Thursday, 4 March 2021 21:48 (three years ago) link

Is Zardoz on the list? Asking for a friend possibly putting together a very basic ballot.

Noel Emits, Thursday, 4 March 2021 23:06 (three years ago) link

Also Aronofsky's Pi, I'm hearing.

Noel Emits, Thursday, 4 March 2021 23:15 (three years ago) link

some good stuff is missing :(

billstevejim, Thursday, 4 March 2021 23:38 (three years ago) link

As a few posts have pointed out, unless you're heavily invested in the results, and you're worried about voting for something not on the big list, you can vote for whatever you want.

clemenza, Thursday, 4 March 2021 23:48 (three years ago) link

afaik the list is mostly a compendium of films put forward on other threads, it's more just a reminder than a definitive nominations list

Dan S, Thursday, 4 March 2021 23:58 (three years ago) link

why read the posts when you can ask questions about the posts and then not read the replies

grab bag cum trash bag (sic), Friday, 5 March 2021 00:52 (three years ago) link

i am sort of sorry

billstevejim, Friday, 5 March 2021 01:05 (three years ago) link

Fearless is pretty good -- my first adult notice of Jeff Bridges as actor -- but Bridges' mullet is a hindrance.

Are we allowed to vote in this if Morbs would have sneered at our lack of filmic knowledge?

Guayaquil (eephus!), Friday, 5 March 2021 01:11 (three years ago) link

The trouble with snarking at people for not succesfully scouring every single post (when they might be text fatigued from looking through a long list of things) in search of rules that might be better placed in say the OP is that this post now might look it's criticising the poll runner(s), which it is not.

Noel Emits, Friday, 5 March 2021 01:14 (three years ago) link

Lotta mullet-adjacent dadhair in Weir's American films - Depardieu in Green Card, sunbleached Ford in Mosquito Coast. He even tried to fake one on Ed Harris with that beret.

grab bag cum trash bag (sic), Friday, 5 March 2021 01:15 (three years ago) link

Stuff in my personal favorites that's not mentioned here yet:

Some kind of monster
Predator
Reanimator
Falling down
Freaked

billstevejim, Friday, 5 March 2021 01:17 (three years ago) link

There should be a mullet movie poll

billstevejim, Friday, 5 March 2021 01:18 (three years ago) link

(you only needed to look six posts up, a couple of hours before you posted tbf Noel. and half the discussion in the current revive also addresses this issue, it's not just you!)

grab bag cum trash bag (sic), Friday, 5 March 2021 01:20 (three years ago) link

I didn't see the post. I guess I fucked up!

billstevejim, Friday, 5 March 2021 01:22 (three years ago) link

My own personal issue with voting for a film that wasn't nominated is that it seems like a futile gesture in the context of a poll.

So okay well then I'll just say here: Mädchen in Uniform is beautiful and brilliant and everyone should see it and vote for it. There, I feel better now.

Stefan Twerkelle (Old Lunch), Friday, 5 March 2021 02:24 (three years ago) link

Eric, I just sent you my ballot. Miss you so much, Morbs!

Sorry all. Been off the grid the last few days. I’ll update the list of who I’ve got ballots from this weekend and also update the overall list from pastebin, and RE paste the updated version here tho, yes, vote for whatever your heart wants.

just submitted

little johnny juul (voodoo chili), Friday, 5 March 2021 17:44 (three years ago) link

I tell myself I'm going to submit a ballot tonight after I sign off my work computer. Do whatever you think is right with this information.

Infanta Terrible (j.lu), Friday, 5 March 2021 17:45 (three years ago) link

Also, there is no crazy rush people. I am not likely to close balloting period for weeks at the rate my day to day life is going lately.

avatar of a kind of respectability homosexual culture (Eric H.), Friday, 5 March 2021 20:03 (three years ago) link

NOMINATIONS: https://pastebin.com/LwvpYQ1A (Roughly 1,750 candidates listed; no, I don't know why pastebin flagged the list as NSFW.)

doesn't seem to work now? I've only ever seen about 38 movies and possibly want to celebrate about 11 of them, so no biggie except I feel noms list should perhaps be easier to access?

anatol_merklich, Friday, 5 March 2021 23:24 (three years ago) link

someone should post about that link not working
