so who saw 8/9? did it improve?

thought 8 and 9 were as good as any other season

going through s9 now but so far prefer 8+9 to 6+7

it kinda dipped a little since S6 but its an easy watch and there's generally at least one scene per episode that i laugh at. Got plenty of laughs out of s8-9. littlekenny i watched about 30 seconds of and bounced.

as someone who grew up in rural MN it's a hell of a lot more familiar feeling than PHC

wait maybe im not thinknig of 7. whatever the latest season is. that's the one that feels weird and unfinished.

think i said some of this in the hulu thread, but to me a comprehensive list of reference points must include:

-king of the hill (rural sensibilities in the modern world! and a lot of sitting around drinking and shooting the shit)
-jody hill (slow motion violence with cool songs, also often rural)
-kevin smith (most of the characters are written in the author's voice, fondness for hockey)

can't really explain it but just watched the one where shoresy, talking shit the entire time, routs the shamrockettes. which was fine, but then he ends all the chirping with 'short shifts!' and i almost choked

the existence of shoresy is such a ridiculous comedy bit, but I end up laughing at the character nearly every time

the guy who plays dierks does a really good job

all caught up; s08 and s09 were fine -- i just didn't like the crack n ag premise in s07

Some of the episodes where they only sit and crack puns gets a bit much, but every single one of the slow motion fight scenes are hilarious. I kinda like the back and forth with the hockey dudes and skids sometimes more than the regular gang in-front of the vegetable stand.

It is a show where I would like to see more from some of the obscure characters. I liked that they finally had Joint Boy and Tyson get more lines in them working with Stewart to get him ready to fight.

I'd obviously like to see more of Scottie, who keeps bad company with the Ginger and Boots.

I would love to see Cyrus' character from Trailer Park Boys cross over ala Richard Belzer's Munch into Letterkenny, as I think he was funny and I could see that dude building up to one of those beat downs with Cyrus in charge of some degens up to no good.

Still haven't watched it, but half my teaching days are in Listowel, the town all of this is based on. There's a golfer from there who's in the Top 10 or 20 right now.

If you do watch it, tell us how accurate its depiction of it is. I assume there's a bit of exaggeration for comedic effect, but I'd be interested to know just how much of it is exaggerated

I'll try to watch, but just being in and out--I've probably had 50-60 days there this school year--I don't really have any sense of the place. I half-wish I'd stop getting called out there so often: it's an hour's drive. A full day's okay, but I get half-days, too, and they're hardly worth it with the gas.

yeah it actually was jarring to me at first to see Keeso's face in the first Shorsey episode, I mean obv I knew it was always him playing both parts on Letterkenny, but it's just weird to go from that gag to seeing Wayne-face without squint.

but...actually pretty intriguing, and the locker room trash talk with the coach was hilarious.

His affect as Shoresy is different enough that I actually can almost forget it's Wayne. An advantage of character acting, and he's good at those two.

Keeso plays Shoresy with this total hound dog face, usually with a dip, needing a shave and a baseball hat on backwards. It does not really look like the same guy.

That show actually at times has a bit of a plot in an episode too.

wasn't into shoresy s02e01, but i watched them all straight through yesterday and re-found the love. not too sure about 'if someone tries a lacrosse/michigan goal, i get to make them bleed all over the ice' but tbf keeso *did* play Don Cherry in a biopic

only seen s2e1 this season and man that opening sportstalk segment is so um—
not as good as last season’s— they always seemed obv overly broad and dumb but they flowed right. not the s2e1.

the rest of the ep was ok i guess.

The first few episodes of this most recent season were running on some serious fumes but they eventually found their footing. A pale shadow of their peak but there's still some gas in the tank.

obviously you can't service 80 characters in six shows but i'd have rather spent less time on degens and more time with actually funny characters

i guess concentrating on hicks/hockeys/skids is understandable

but also idgaf about this lily woman and am personally disappointed that marie-fred did not show up at the very end

sun darts is amazing tho
