The idea that we would ever be interested in the living room and name of the go compare opera lad makes me want to hunt down his agent and everyone else involved in the meeting and rip parts of them out

wow video I grabbed off youtube and converted to MP4 has added like 300 hours before the performance I was trying to grab.
So need to get a fi9le editor to snip that bit off. Still reading as 133MB so something very odd going on but am seeing that the performance can be accessed on my computer at least.
Wasn't feeling very wide awake this afternoon so sticking through a performance based on Greek tragedy wasn't quite getting me there. Thought this would be easier and i could watch it later.l

Mailkorder bookshop taht I only have contact for through a hub marketplace where tehir entry for a book I am looking for hasa note about current situation for delivery. That says taht it may be possible taht items from this seller may not be able to send to your address tahnks to Brexit and pandemic. Buut doesn't state this to be certain and this is the on ecopy I'm seeing this side of the Atlantic.
So I've written to them prior to ordering and asked if they can deliver here or otherwise I may have an address in the UK that I would be reluctant to use (actually taht may not be relevant to this situation and hope it isn't going to be later).
To which I've got a response asking me to provide the order number and further details before they offer any help. To which I've said twice taht this wasa question I asked prior to making an order. & then got a further request for the order number. I'm not sure if this is an automated response taht has changed slightly or an officious person who hasn't seen that the fact taht this was a question has been spelt out to them.
Drag is taht this si a book I could use to improve my sewing which is a major pastime with me. & it is the only one I'm seeing for sale reasonably cheap this side of the Atlantic.
Is this Catch 22 or something more base

Stevolende, Thursday, 4 March 2021 09:22 (three years ago) link

actually what makes this worse was last night they sent me a message containing every previous message they got from me and still asking for this non existent order number

A friend is organizing a group of us to go on a fishing trip in late spring/early summer. None of them are close to best buddies or anything, but I like them all, we've known each other for many years, and never mind that I haven't fished in decades, this is not the time to say no to anything like this. However, I just noticed that one of the folks is a friend that doesn't drink and barely eats anything (no sugar, iiic, no bread, plus a few other no-nos) for vague health reasons, and voluntarily started going to AA a few years back for ... secret pot smoking? ("Seven years sober!" he announced the other night). He's also extremely likely to bring his acoustic guitar and play folk songs. (Related: once I told him I was listening to the new Neil Young album, and he asked me if it was electric. I said yes, and he said "oh, I only like his acoustic stuff.") Which is a long way around to say that friend or no, he sounds like he might be a drag on a weekend fishing trip.

John Belushi that guitar!

nickn, Wednesday, 17 March 2021 21:52 (three years ago) link

I have another friend prone to busting out his guitar and singing, too. I can't stand it. We'll be by a fire, just having a conversation, and the next thing I know he's strumming and playing "Hey Joe." I don't want to hear that!

this is deeply irrational

like its quite silly tbh but i have to vent

I follow a person on Instagram who sells vintage gowns & fancy clothes from the 1920’s through 1980’s - really cool stuff that I enjoy just from a fashion perspective

She has a lot of sheer dresses that would have traditionally been worn with a slip/petticoat/etc underneath. But she always models them in a bra & undies. On the one hand cool, she has a great body ... but it drives me bananas bc it changes the look of the dress! do i have to see your barely nude body every time?

i sound like a total uptight prude this is such a dumb IA but it bugs the hell out of me lol

message her and helpfully tell her it alters/undermines the look

then come back here and let us know if she's modelling them without underwear

Reminds me of a story my aunt tells about a coworker (presumably named Joyce, but my aunt calls her Schmoyce) who made all her own clothes because whenever she tried on clothes in a store fitting room she would always turn out to be wearing the wrong color bra and would look like THE WRATH OF GOD!

i have one friend who, if we're getting ready to meet up in person, calls me on the drive there, like always....not to talk logistics, just to...chat.

I'M GOING TO SEE YOU IN TWENTY MINUTES, why do we have to talk now? we're going to use up our conversation for later!

I usually don't answer unless i'm concerned that something's wrong, but....idgi!

"Salvation Army FUCK!" (Neanderthal), Wednesday, 17 March 2021 23:28 (three years ago) link

My kid has a memory game from ikea that has 17 pairs, for a total of 34 pieces.

Any time I've played any memory game the custom is to lay the tiles out in a grid. If there were 16 pairs you could do an 8x4 grid, and with 18 pairs it could be a 6x6 or 4x9. But this can only be laid out evenly in a 2x17 grid which is ridiculous.

i am in a fb group where ppl post pics of their coffee mugs, its v innocuous and was kind of nice at first

some people have a weird “visual storyteller” badge w their name for reasons i cannot fathom bc they super arent. or the bar is very low for them naming themselves as such

one such visual storyteller did a STOP ASIAN HATE tableau for their photo, which:
first, their heart is in the right place.
Love the sentiment. But the photo was of
1) a Willow-pattern porcelain mug
2) a Hawaiian inspired Chinese cookbook from the 80’s.

like. Seriously? lol

Another one was captioned “Puzzled?
1) jigsaw puzzle box
2) nondescript mug

i need to leave the group, it does my head in

they post every day like we are going applaud them for looking at things from such a “unique angle”

It's obviously post figurative work. Probably derived from influences such as cubism and primitivism. Including her kid's paint your own mug of a high speed car alongside her kid's favourite stuffed toy. Probably just had a major tantrum so the artist has placed things related to this child together nad given it this semi ironic title. I mea maybe she was frightened by a Bangle at an early age.
NOt to be totally pseud or anything.

Boomer morons who shamelessly cheat at Scrabble-like online word games.

Dan I., Wednesday, 7 April 2021 19:59 (three years ago) link

lol, i understand your anger here; i played a casual game of scrabble with a boomer once who used the dictionary WHILE we were playing and acted like i was crazy for suggesting that was anything less than kosher

G.A.G.S. (Gophers Against Getting Stuffed) (forksclovetofu), Wednesday, 7 April 2021 23:17 (three years ago) link

I remember years ago playing scrabble with a (non-boomer) friend and he just casually checking a word in the dictionary un the middle of the game. He was baffled when I said that that was cheating, in his family growing up they had always played with dictionaries allowed.
