i used to sometimes for fun listen to this harold camping guy on the radio in my car and he kept predicting the world would end on certain dates. he even bought billboards saying it would end may something 2011. still waiting!

I think Harold Camping was an Oakland dude, oddly enough. Or at least he broadcast out of the East Bay somewhere.

And yes, his world did come to an end.

The problem is that some of them are LARPing with body armor and loaded semi-automatic rifles and handguns. This can become a problem if they really get into their role-playing.

My guess is not much will happen tomorrow and 9/11/21 will become the new date where everything changes, it fits their shitty action movie sensibilities.

Aimless otm. I think this bullshit would be a lot easier to laugh off if we didn't already know how many of these dudes are heavily armed and/or work for groups with access to military grade weapons. Do I think they'll successfully storm the Capitol again? No. But it annoys me to see people shrug this off as if its inconsequential.

it just seems to me like March 4th is a big deal to the magical-thinking Q believers, the day when the scales fall from everyone's eyes, we realize that the US hasn't been a country since 1871, the military mobilizes, etc. Jan 6 was supposed to be a day when Congress could take a specific action and fix the stolen election, and there was a certain bonkers logic to the idea that a mobilization of people would push Congress to do what they wanted. But nothing election-related is actually happening tomorrow, so what's going to be the spark?

Looking at the big publicly visible Q forum they seem pretty doubtful that anything will happen.

Mostly likely a few grumpy old dudes in mossy oak and MAGA caps, loitering in front of state capitol buildings... they couldn't get the time off work to drive to D.C.

Yeah, without a big focus like "Mike Pence can turn this around", it'll diffuse, people will find their own deadlines or slow processes for realising that nothing is happening - some might realise that nothing is happening others, will get back to what they see as the great work. It's interesting because it's an example of what memes (in Richard Dawkins' original conception) were - the idea mutates when it needs to (when the road runs out on Jan 6th) and the strongest (the ones with the highest upvotes on the forums) continue - these are the ones that can latch onto an existing structure, like the Sovereign Citizen movement, or bible studies - being able to read everything as a biblical reference is a very similar skill to being able to read everything as a Q-code.

I read more talk of 'bracing' for extremists.. have any actually shown up? Or is The Great Re-ReAwakening cancelled?

CNN was covering this yesterday...I guess they have to, but that really seemed to me to be a case where you're just feeding into the possibility of something happening. people with poor self-awareness (most of us) are quite capable of feeling they are simultaneously super heroes and victims, without seeing any contradiction in that. learning to see yourself as if from outside and know your flaws and self-deceptions is a learned skill which must be kept in constant use if it is not to atrophy.

It's still stunning that man who daily wears hairspray and tanning spray, and has never carried anything heavier than a five iron in the last forty years, was able to position himself as a working-class hero/salt-of-the-earth/champion of the people so effectively. I mean, Hitler was at least a war veteran.

But perhaps his string of divorces and business failures actually added to the appeal.. that was his 'struggle'.

there's this new theory i have i heard that trump is going to elected on where the Julian Leap Year date (Feb 29) would be on a non-Julian leap year, if that makes sense. so if this is a Julian Leap Year, which is what I read here a minute ago i heard, then we might need to wait until where the "Feb 29" would be on a non-Julian Leap Year - in other words, March 1st, 2022.
