i used to sometimes for fun listen to this harold camping guy on the radio in my car and he kept predicting the world would end on certain dates. he even bought billboards saying it would end may something 2011. still waiting!

I think Harold Camping was an Oakland dude, oddly enough. Or at least he broadcast out of the East Bay somewhere.

Andy the Grasshopper, Wednesday, 3 March 2021 18:27 (three years ago) link

And yes, his world did come to an end.

🐦[Breaking on @MSNBC🕸: The FBI and DHS have issued a joint intel bulletin warning that domestic extremists have discussed plans to "take control of the U.S. Capitol and remove democratic lawmakers on or about the 4th of March." March 4 is important to QAnon believers. @JuliaEAinsley🕸

Well since January DC is even more of a maze of fences and bollards—especially around the Capitol—so, uh, good luck with that guys?

Somehow I imagine these doofuses, unable to storm the Capitol this time, trying to storm Capitol Heights because of the name and then getting lost in the suburbs.

Bruno Ganz and Babaloo Mandel (Boring, Maryland), Wednesday, 3 March 2021 20:36 (three years ago) link

they're all going to show up at Federal Express and threaten to shut down the mail service

Red Nerussi (Neanderthal), Wednesday, 3 March 2021 20:37 (three years ago) link

They're LARPing anyway... it'll be a choose-your-own-adventure kind of outing.

if you want to build a pillow fort at the Pentagon, go to page 14.
If you want to invade and seize Medieval Times, go to page 15
If you want to do something that actually matters, become somebody else.

They're LARPing anyway...

The problem is that some of them are LARPing with body armor and loaded semi-automatic rifles and handguns. This can become a problem if they really get into their role-playing.

Judge Roi Behan (Aimless), Wednesday, 3 March 2021 20:58 (three years ago) link

My guess is not much will happen tomorrow and 9/11/21 will become the new date where everything changes, it fits their shitty action movie sensibilities.

JoeStork, Wednesday, 3 March 2021 21:27 (three years ago) link

Aimless otm. I think this bullshit would be a lot easier to laugh off if we didn't already know how many of these dudes are heavily armed and/or work for groups with access to military grade weapons. Do I think they'll successfully storm the Capitol again? No. But it annoys me to see people shrug this off as if its inconsequential.

it just seems to me like March 4th is a big deal to the magical-thinking Q believers, the day when the scales fall from everyone's eyes, we realize that the US hasn't been a country since 1871, the military mobilizes, etc. Jan 6 was supposed to be a day when Congress could take a specific action and fix the stolen election, and there was a certain bonkers logic to the idea that a mobilization of people would push Congress to do what they wanted. But nothing election-related is actually happening tomorrow, so what's going to be the spark?

Looking at the big publicly visible Q forum they seem pretty doubtful that anything will happen.

JoeStork, Thursday, 4 March 2021 00:32 (three years ago) link

Mostly likely a few grumpy old dudes in mossy oak and MAGA caps, loitering in front of state capitol buildings... they couldn't get the time off work to drive to D.C.

Andy the Grasshopper, Thursday, 4 March 2021 00:39 (three years ago) link

Yeah, without a big focus like "Mike Pence can turn this around", it'll diffuse, people will find their own deadlines or slow processes for realising that nothing is happening - some might realise that nothing is happening others, will get back to what they see as the great work. A quote from the forums:

If we're looking at anything being done behind the scenes to act as countermeasures, it seems likely that they will continue to be covert and unannounced to the greater public. Meaning soft moves, not hard ones. If you think about it, without controlling dissemination of information across the majority of the popular platforms, narrative positioning and hence moving the population to the much vaunted 'military tribunals' is a logical and practical impossibility. If you took over the major airwaves and showed the greater population what their rulers truly were, to try and get support for hard actions, you'd be effectively playing into the enemy's hands of dividing the country and perhaps irreparably so. It is likely not a campaign of in your face confrontation, but the years of positioning to levers of power that you're looking at, that is assuming, anything is being done at all.

For our part, the answer is clear, people have to carry on with their lives as best they can and create the country they want for themselves and their children, as best they can.

I mean there will definitely be a problem where there's a bunch of people who felt like the system was in some way representing them, and now don't (and have further "evidence" that the system is broken and invalid), and they're heavily armed and belligerent. And Q is serving as a plank in the ramshackle platform that supports anti-vax, anti-mask, that's not good - one of the Wins of the Day yesterday was Texas governor Abbott lifting coronavirus restrictions.

Andrew Farrell, Thursday, 4 March 2021 09:20 (three years ago) link

it started off with Q making the prophecies, but it quickly became others making the prophecies with Q. it's an evolving shared decentralized game, and the unspoken goal is to create the most popular variant of the theory that others can attach themselves to

It's interesting because it's an example of what memes (in Richard Dawkins' original conception) were - the idea mutates when it needs to (when the road runs out on Jan 6th) and the strongest (the ones with the highest upvotes on the forums) continue - these are the ones that can latch onto an existing structure, like the Sovereign Citizen movement, or bible studies - being able to read everything as a biblical reference is a very similar skill to being able to read everything as a Q-code.

Andrew Farrell, Thursday, 4 March 2021 09:29 (three years ago) link

I read more talk of 'bracing' for extremists.. have any actually shown up? Or is The Great Re-ReAwakening cancelled?

Andy the Grasshopper, Thursday, 4 March 2021 17:27 (three years ago) link

iirc from post-prediction doomsday manual, the next steps are pretty simple:

...

SCENARIO 2.4.22: A specific date was prophesied but nothing happened
protocol: go back to the bible and/or ancient calendars. at some point, mistakes were made and the whole world is now on the wrong calendar. only you and your friends know what the correct date and year is now

Zach_TBD (Karl Malone), Thursday, 4 March 2021 17:31 (three years ago) link

CNN was covering this yesterday...I guess they have to, but that really seemed to me to be a case where you're just feeding into the possibility of something happening. Cover it, and I'm sure there are people who think "Well, we'd better do something or we look weak"; ignore it (beyond a quick story about the Capitol closed for the day--you can't really ignore that) and the incentive to go through with this insanity diminishes. Not that I claim to understand this mindset.

QAnon Shaman (Jacob Chansley, the shirtless buffalo horn dude): "I developed a lot of sympathy for Donald Trump because it seemed like the media was picking on him and seemed like the establishment was going after him unnecessarily or unfairly, and I had been a victim of that all of my life, whether it be in school or at home. So in many ways I identify with a lot of the negative things that he was going through," Chansley said.

"I honestly believed and still believe that he cares about the Constitution, that he cares about the American people, and that's also why and you know it wounded me so deeply and why it disappointed me so greatly that I and others did not get a pardon," Chansley added.

Perhaps this is the core of their adulation, or at least some of them... rather than Trump as a strongman, they see him as somebody who has been pushed around and had sand kicked in his face, just like they've been pushed around, persecuted, shamed. A lot to unpack here.

Andy the Grasshopper, Thursday, 4 March 2021 18:55 (three years ago) link

Nah, that smells like a bullshit excuse made up after he got caught and suffered some consequences, hoping for sympathy.

soaring skrrrtpeggios (jon /via/ chi 2.0), Thursday, 4 March 2021 18:57 (three years ago) link

I'm inclined to agree.

Andy the Grasshopper, Thursday, 4 March 2021 18:58 (three years ago) link

I think it's possible he believes that, and maybe some percentage of Trump's cult; for the rest of the world, Trump as victim/bullied is kind of hard to get your mind around.

clemenza, Thursday, 4 March 2021 19:00 (three years ago) link

Not dismissing you, it's just so at odds with the alpha dog, big balled tough guy who brooks no shit image they project on Trump, that it feels really disingenuous to only now hear this take after things are falling apart and they are suffering irl consequences.

soaring skrrrtpeggios (jon /via/ chi 2.0), Thursday, 4 March 2021 19:00 (three years ago) link

(And yeah, who cares anyway, even if he does.)

clemenza, Thursday, 4 March 2021 19:01 (three years ago) link

In a way though, the very core of Trumpist appeal is victimhood: they've wronged you and people like you, and only I can make it right. Nobody's gonna push you around anymore, etc.

Andy the Grasshopper, Thursday, 4 March 2021 19:03 (three years ago) link

re: Trump as bullied, AIUI that kind of paradoxical thinking (our enemies are effeminate and weak; our enemies are terrifying in their strength and oppress us all) is pretty core to fascism.

lukas, Thursday, 4 March 2021 19:07 (three years ago) link

so at odds with the alpha dog, big balled tough guy who brooks no shit image

people with poor self-awareness (most of us) are quite capable of feeling they are simultaneously super heroes and victims, without seeing any contradiction in that. learning to see yourself as if from outside and know your flaws and self-deceptions is a learned skill which must be kept in constant use if it is not to atrophy.

Judge Roi Behan (Aimless), Thursday, 4 March 2021 19:26 (three years ago) link

It's still stunning that man who daily wears hairspray and tanning spray, and has never carried anything heavier than a five iron in the last forty years, was able to position himself as a working-class hero/salt-of-the-earth/champion of the people so effectively. I mean, Hitler was at least a war veteran.

But perhaps his string of divorces and business failures actually added to the appeal.. that was his 'struggle'.

Andy the Grasshopper, Thursday, 4 March 2021 19:38 (three years ago) link

I've heard that ending birthright citizenship was to become the #1 priority in the 2nd term; too hot to tout during the campaign, obviously. Stephen Miller died inside when this didn't happen.

Bruno Ganz and Babaloo Mandel (Boring, Maryland), Thursday, 4 March 2021 20:40 (three years ago) link

there are actually multiple Julian calendars that might be the true one, just keep that in your back pocket, i mean in mind

Zach_TBD (Karl Malone), Thursday, 4 March 2021 20:56 (three years ago) link

Andy the Grasshopper, Thursday, 4 March 2021 20:59 (three years ago) link

Did u know that if you look at old calendars, March 4th happened on many different days of the week, virtually all of them, and so it follows that this March 4th could fall anywhere in this week or maybe any other week, only Q knows for sure, have faith and Q will provide

Stefan Twerkelle (Old Lunch), Thursday, 4 March 2021 20:59 (three years ago) link

Stefan Twerkelle (Old Lunch), Thursday, 4 March 2021 21:01 (three years ago) link

there's this new theory i have i heard that trump is going to elected on where the Julian Leap Year date (Feb 29) would be on a non-Julian leap year, if that makes sense. so if this is a Julian Leap Year, which is what I read here a minute ago i heard, then we might need to wait until where the "Feb 29" would be on a non-Julian Leap Year - in other words, March 1st, 2022.

One possible flaw in the logic: if Ulysses Grant was the last legitimately inaugurated POTUS (based on Sovereign Citizen doctrine), what about Trump's first term? Hmmm?

Andy the Grasshopper, Thursday, 4 March 2021 21:03 (three years ago) link

but it could also be March 1 of 2023 and 2024 as well, and those are all just other possible dates if it doesn't happen today

that makes him the last of the Interregnum Leaders, and the one that led America back to legitimacy
