Anything worth checking out from today's State of Play?

A lot of them had been in previous state of plays... Returnal, Deathloop, Oddworld, etc. Returnal looks pretty nice.

Crash Bandicoot 4 and Final Fantasy VII Remake are getting pretty substantial upgrades for next gen.

Sifu and Solar Ash looked cool of the games I hadn't seen before.

only new announcement was FF7 Remake Yuffie DLC, it being exclusive to PS5 is wtf

I see that Hitman 2 is on sale for a few more days, but how the trilogies work in terms of transferring progress is a little confusing. Would 2 be a good starting place (Hitman 1 GOTY is still full price), and I'd just wait for 3 to eventually come down in price?

Since you can import H2 progress to 3, 2 is a good starting place, but you won't have access to the Hitman 1 levels out of the box unless you pay extra for it as DLC or already own it.

Is there a way to make the button prompts bigger in Hitman 2? I can barely make out the onscreen tips and tutorials.

As well as hardly ever being able to make out button prompts, my TV is so old it overscans my PS4 and there's no option to stop it doing it, making a lot of games more difficult and some (Civ 6) impossible to play

Do I need a PS+ account to play Hitman 2? I bought Hitman 2: Gold Edition, which is supposed to be the full game + DLC, but I can only play the first level plus the prologue -- all the other missions say "Get Access" with a link to go to the store, but when I go there, it says it's already installed.

You shouldn't need it, unless you got Hitman 2 as part of PS+ a while back. Maybe delete and reinstall?

Incidentally, I think I'm going to delete Ratchet & Clank. Unengaging script/characters, basic gameplay, and 25GB that could be better used for Hitman levels.

Question about the new Mass Effect remaster: as someone who only played the first one on Xbox, is it a trivial thing to just buy the new one and start with part 2 on PS4? (I actually still have disc copies for of 2 and 3 for 360)

Yeah, I think you can start wherever, though I think it uses some defaults for the narrative choices in the first game.

No idea what the prices will be, but there's a PS sale hitting at the end of the month that I think for the first time includes Ghost of Tsushima, Miles Morales and The Last of Us Part II, which were maybe the last three big titles dropped before the PS5 was released. I'm totally down for all of those, though most likely would skip Miles for now, only because I never finished the first game.

I thought God of War nu-2 would be the one that could convince me to get a PS5, but now it looks like it not only got delayed to 2022, it'll be for PS4 as well as PS5. So that's even less incentive to upgrade any time soon.

2 years crossgen period is pretty normal, 2023 is when you'll get the first big ps5-only title

Yeah, but for huge flagship first-party titles? I guess even Nintendo did it with the Zelda games from Wii to Switch, still hard to get used to that idea. I don't feel like this happened with Mario or Halo.

They don't need any help selling ps5s right now though, GoW2 will probably be old news by the time supply comes close to exceeding demand

the first huge flagship first party game on ps4 but not ps3 was horizon zero dawn wasn't it? which came out 3.5 years after launch. bloodborne was earlier but that was still a bit more niche at the time.

I didn't realize till this week that PSPrices only aggregates price histories on the PS store, and not from retailers.
